As usual, this summer in Kansas City area will be filled from end to end with festivals: community, county, ethnic and other traditional events.

In fact, you could attend one or more every weekend in early September, starting with Festa Italiana (May 31-June 2, Zona Rosa) and Old Shawnee Days (June 6-9, Shawnee) and running through SantaCaliGon Days (Aug. 30-Sep 2, Square Independence) and Spinach Festival (Sept. 7, Park Sar-Ko-Par).

That is, the annual priorities are not mentioned as Boulevardia (June 14-15, West Bottoms), Riverfest (July 4, Berwley Riverfront Park) and the Ethnic Enrichment Festival (August 16-18, Swope Park).

But festivals and fairs that are not so traditional will appear in the summer calendar.

Two new ones will be TinyFest Midwest, a courtesy of the living trend that became a national phenomenon, and Grand Carnivale, a three-week international celebration by Worlds of Fun.

And, for a while, Sesame Street celebrates its 50th anniversary with a special event in Kansas City.

Here are some of the highlights of the summer, as well as our big list of summer festivals.

Tweedweed Music Festival

Camping and socialization are as attractive as music, including Alabama, Blackberry Smoke, Marshall Journey Band, Whiskey Myers, Reckless Kelly and more.

If you like TV shows like “Tiny House Nation,” “Tiny House, Big Living” and “Tiny House Hunters,” you could have a small problem. Anyway, this event is there for you and everyone who lives in a tiny life.

This is mainly an opportunity for people to experience Yoga through other classes and sessions, but there will be a Summer Solstice Party and, after the final ceremony, a Calvin Arsenia concert (7:30 pm 22 June).

Fun Bills This is the biggest summer event in the history of the park. The proceedings shall commence at 5 pm. every evening as parts of the park will be global regions with indigenous food, beverages, music, dance, crafts and entertainment.

Street-Sesame Tour

Big Bird, Elmo and Sesame Street stars are hitting the road for a 10 city tour to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the show with park festivals, live performances and child friendly activities.

Sesame Street Festival t

As part of a national roadshow sponsored by the Sesame Workshop, non-profit characters will be behind “Sesame Street,” from the PBS children's program in Kansas City for a number of days to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the TV show. There will be a free family festival and stage show at the top of the visit.

With many nation-wide events, the Lantern Water Festival is based on a simple idea: people pay for swimming lanterns that they carry on the water after dark to create an attractive sight and memories. Food and music will also be part of the equation.

Baby Love: Baby Fair KC Fair

No, this event is not a huge party for young children. It is more focused on existing mothers, infant businesses and children displaying their goods and services. There will also be free articles and competitions.

People are welcome, but Tails on the Trails are dogs, who can take part in a talent show and plumge ponds and can visit vendors' booths and watch exhibitions. OK, these last two are more people-oriented.
