Robert Willard, former senior engineer for B.E. Meyers & Co., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in device development.
Highly regarded by his peers as someone who always welcomed new opportunities and challenges, Dr. Willard met with tremendous success during his five-decade-long career. Humbly attributing his achievements to “blind luck,” he is recognized by B.E. Meyers Co. for his work developing illuminating lasers for the military. He worked for the company for 16 years as a senior engineer, where he demonstrated his top skills from his past experiences. Dr. Willard’s prominent roles in his career included director of instrumentation and engineering for MetriCor Inc. (formerly Tech Dynamics, Inc.), senior engineer for Boeing Aerospace Co., and senior engineer and research professor for the applied physics laboratory at the University of Washington. In recognition of his professional excellence, Dr Willard was the recipient of a Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement award and a Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. He also holds various patents in his field and currently has one pending for an electronic system that helps treat Alzheimer’s disease.
When asked what the highlight of his career was, Dr. Willard speaks to a project that he is proud of from his time at the University of Washington. Notably, he worked in partnership with a team of engineers and scientists to build and install a high-powered transmitter in the Antarctic. In addition, he notes that the favorite part of his career has been the many projects he worked on in device development. Driven by his intrinsic nature to learn, develop and execute, Dr. Willard has remained at the top of his field through his professional affiliations with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Geophysical Union, Sigma Xi, Phi Beta Kappa, and Tau Beta Pi.
Dr. Willard is a graduate of the University of Washington. He earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1955, a Master of Science in electrical engineering in 1957, and a PhD in 1971. Additionally, he is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Washington. In his retirement, Dr. Willard continues to support industry efforts and hopes to take on passion projects in the years to come.
