2019 Oscar Predictions
Yeah, yeah. It’s been a year since I’ve posted anything on here. Let’s quickly move past that. I’ve reemerged so that I can make my predictions for the Oscars this year. I’ve already filled out a ballot to win an Alamo Drafthouse gift card, but that doesn’t feel like enough. I say “predictions,” but these choices are really more of who I would like to see win, i.e. my favorites. I’m also just sticking to Best Picture and Actors.
Best Picture Nominees:
Black Panther – BlacKkKlansman – Bohemian Rhapsody – The Favourite – Green Book – Roma – A Star Is Born – Vice
Although I loved The Favourite for its great performances and clever and captivating storytelling, I just have a feeling that Black Panther is going to win. Overall, everything was solid about it – acting, story, theme, music, cinematography – it was perfect to me.
Christian Bale “Vice” – Bradley Cooper “A Star Is Born” – Willem Defoe “At Eternity’s Gate” – Rami Malek “Bohemian Rhapsody” – Viggo Mortenson “Green Book”
Rami Malek “Bohemian Rhapsody”
If you saw this movie, you will know. Rami Malek’s transformation into Queen’s Freddie Mercury is incredible and something I could watch for hours on end. He’s already won at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and Golden Globes for his performance.
Yalitza Aparicio “Roma” – Glenn Close “The Wife” – Olivia Coleman “The Favourite” – Lady Gaga “A Star Is Born” – Melissa McCarthy “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”
Olivia Coleman “The Favourite”
I’m still waiting to see The Wife and Can You Ever Forgive Me? so my choice is probably lacking good information, but I don’t see how one could top Olivia Coleman’s performance in The Favourite.
Mahershala Ali “Green Book” – Adam Driver “BlacKkKlansman” – Sam Elliot “A Star Is Born” – Richard E. Grant “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” – Sam Rockwell “Vice”
Mahershala Ali “Green Book”
I’ve been binge-watching the newest season of True Detective with Mahershala this past week and it’s amazing so I’m completely biased, but this is still my choice. I really enjoyed Mahershala’s performance in Green Book.
Amy Adams “Vice” – Marina de Tavira “Roma” – Regina King “If Beale Street Could Talk” – Emma Stone “The Favourite” – Rachel Weisz “The Favourite”
Rachel Weisz “The Favourite”
I know Regina King is a big contender for this award, but I haven’t yet seen If Beale Street Could Talk so I don’t know. Again, I loved all performances in The Favourite, but Rachel Weisz was something else.
