UCLA adds RB Christian Grubb to 2019 recruiting class
UCLA added running back Christian Grubb to its 2019 recruiting class Wednesday, injecting another speedy option into the backfield.
Grubb, who was slated to walk-on at Arizona State before signing scholarship papers to UCLA this week, is a dual-sport star for Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound prospect was named the Mission League Offensive Player of the Year as a senior with 1,306 rushing yards and 25 total touchdowns and won the 100 meters (10.61 seconds), 200 meters (21.09 seconds) and triple jump (45 feet, 11 inches) at the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 finals last weekend.

The Bruins already signed two running backs for the 2019 class with Jahmon McClendon and Keegan Jones. Jones enrolled early and participated in spring practice, which ended last month. Led by redshirt senior Joshua Kelley, UCLA now has five scholarship running backs, including sophomores Kazmeir Allen and Martell Irby. Allen, like Grubb, starred in track in high school, winning the California State championship in the 100-meters in 2018 with a 10.44-second time.
Grubb told 247Sports UCLA was his “dream school.” It was where he practiced track since he was 8 years old.
Several UCLA football players already participated in track this spring, including defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia (shot put and discus), walk-on running back Kenroy Higgins (sprints) and Allen. Allen ran a 10.61-second 100-meter dash at the Pac-12 championships last weekend, finishing 19th, while Higgins’ time of 10.46 placed 10th, just one spot out of qualifying for the final. Ogbonnia helped the UCLA men’s track and field team to a second-place finish at the Pac-12 championships with a fourth-place finish in the shot put (64 feet, 3.25 inches) and eighth in the discus (174 feet, 7 inches). It was the team’s best finish at the conference championships since 2005.

What might be the saddest part of USC’s recruiting class this week is how the Trojans are not even part of the national conversation any more.
