Why did James Norton quit Grantchester, who will Tom Brittney play and what time is it on ITV TONIGHT?
GRANTCHESTER is returning to the nation’s screens tonight (January 11).
Season four is set to be a big one for fans as it will mark the end of Reverend Sidney Chambers (James Norton) but also the arrival of newbie Will Davenport (Tom Brittney). Here’s the lowdown on the new series.
What is Grantchester on TV?
The fourth series of Grantchester will premiere on ITV tonight.
You can catch it at 9pm.
If you miss it you can watch it on the ITV Hub, after it has aired.
Why has James Norton quit Grantchester?
James has confirmed series four will be his last.
Opening up about why he decided to leave the show, he told the Radio Times: “It was a combination of things [why I chose to leave]. The Amanda storyline tying up the way it did with her and Sidney breaking up and him choosing the church in the third series felt like a natural conclusion to Sidney’s story. Then when the possibility of a fourth series came along, the decision was whether or not to start a whole new journey for Sidney.
“It felt like it would be better to hand over the baton to someone else and give Grantchester a fresh injection of energy.
“It’s been a privilege to play such a wonderful character, but I feel like there are other vicars, other conflicted souls to explore. So it’s time to introduce Tom Brittney as Reverend Will Davenport.”
Who will Tom Brittney play in Grantchester
Tom will play Reverend Will Davenport and is set to make his first appearance in the first episode of series four tonight.
Hinting at what fans can expect from Will, Rom told the Radio Times: “There’s a dark past underneath that makes him that way. William has flaws and things he’s running away from.”
Who are Grantchester’s main stars?
James Norton plays Reverend Sidney Chambers, a former Scots Guards officer with an intuitive approach to solving crime.
Married Robson Green is DI Keating, a gruff World War II veteran with a more rough-round-the-edges policing style.
Supporting cast include Tessa Peake-Jones as Sidney’s religious housekeeper and Lorne MacFadyen as DC Phil Wilkinson.
