Latest mock draft has Sixers taking Belmont shooter Dylan Windler
The 2019 NBA Draft is now officially less than a month away and more mock drafts are pouring in after the NBA Draft Combine. The theme for the Philadelphia 76ers continues to be shooting and that is no different now.
CBS Sports’ latest mock draft has the Sixers selecting Belmont senior Dylan Windler. Windler averaged 21.3 points and 10.8 rebounds while shooting a sizzling 42.9 percent from deep while leading the Bears into the NCAA Tournament.
Philly likely won’t be able to retain its entire core of Jimmy Butler, JJ Redick and Tobias Harris. So a tough decision is coming: Where can it afford to go cheap on? If Redick ends up being the odd man out, Windler makes sense as a late-first addition with his ability to make contested shots and consistency as a 3-point threat. At Belmont his last three seasons he shot 42.9, 42.6 and 39.8% from 3-point range, improving each of his four seasons as a scorer.
The Sixers have a lot of decisions to make this summer with Butler, Harris, and Redick all being free agents. Harris is reported to have plenty of suitors heading into free agency and the Sixers may not want to pay Redick more than the $12 million he was owed this season.
That’s where Windler would come in. He has good size at 6-foot-8 and he has a scorer’s mentality. He isn’t just a shooter either as he can put the ball on the floor and finish at the basket. He’s a guy would certainly be worth a look at 24.
