Juve still after Pogba, will offer Costa to Man Utd
This could quite possibly be the story of the January Transfer Window. It’s just words in the air at the moment but a storm could be brewing in Manchester.
Paul Pogba’s growing discontent for Northern-England may have been temporarily halted due to Mourinho’s departure and the subsequent arrival of the charismatic Ole Gunnar Solskjær, but there’s still something not quite right, and Juve are offering him a way out…
The Italian Champions have already given Cristiano Ronaldo and Aaron Ramsey eye-watering wages so for Paul to come on-board, they’d need to make a swap deal and Douglas Costa could be a makeweight, releasing a reasonable chunk of Juve’s financial burdens.
Costa has featured 14 times in the league season, 10 from the bench so there could be frustration on the Brazilian’s side. When he has played for the Bianconeri he has been decent but nothing tangible. Despite registering an average of one key pass and two dribbles per game, he only has no goals or assists this season. Ill-disciplined and just back from serving a suspension for spitting during Juventus v Sassuolo, Costa seems an odd one.
Nevertheless, he offers direct running and a trio of Costa, Rashford and Martial in behind Romelu Lukaku would be very dangerous and offer plenty of quality wide men, that can drive directly off the defence. It would finally get the Old Trafford crowd off their feet.
Pogba himself had initially been quite underwhelming this season but recent form has driven his stats up to 7 goals and 6 assists in 17 Premier League games, a fantastic return for the central midfielder. There’s not a soul in the red side of Manchester that would want Paul Pogba to leave but there’s little they can do to control what goes on behind the scenes. At least if Paul leaves they would have a ‘quality’ replacement in Douglas Costa…
