A man suspected of murder was arrested after the discovery of an elderly man stabbed to death in a house in southwestern London.

The victims, a 60-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, were found on a property in Whitton on Friday morning.

The police were called to the scene at Redfern Avenue at 9:41.

A 31-year-old man was arrested in Slough for murder around 3 pm

The metropolitan police said that the couple's family, which was not officially identified, was supported by liaison officers.

Chief Commissioner Sally Benatar, who heads the southwestern Met command unit, said, "My thoughts are with the family and friends of the two victims.

"I want to reassure members of the community that it was an isolated incident. After arresting a man this afternoon, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the two dead.

"I would like to express my thanks to colleagues from the emergency services, including the Thames Valley Police, who supported our intervention during this incident."

Detectives from the Met's specialized crime command are investigating the deaths.

"Post mortem examinations will be held in due time," said the force in a statement.

"A formal identification is waiting, but the agents think they know that the identity of both victims and their families are supported by family liaison officers.

"A crime scene remains in place. The investigations continue to establish all the circumstances. "
