Cushendall FC Promoted As They Claim The BSCSC Paddy Dunlop Memorial Play-Off Cup.
Cushendall FC has gained promotion as they defeated Cullybackey Blues FC by 1-0 in the Ballymena Shamrock Celtic Supporters Club Sponsored Paddy Dunlop Memorial 3rd Division Play Off Cup at the Showgrounds.
A Chris McLaughlin goal made the difference in the 10th minute of the game and this was enough for the boys from the coast to claim the last trophy of the season for 3rd division clubs.
The Blues, who were the stronger side for the rest of the half, dominating play with more possession, though without capitalizing, were going for the treble as they have already won the Galgorm Trophies Cup, as well as the Sammy Moore Memorial Cup this season.
There can be no doubt they will be disappointed as promotion was most certainly the aim from the beginning of the long hard season.
However, Cushendall defended their lead for the rest of the match with Johnny Fyfe in goal making some great saves and with the Cullybacky player Robbie Gaston missing a header from a yard out in the last minute, alongside other efforts going close, this was enough to say that Cushendall’s name was on the cup.
After the referee blew full-time whistle it was down to League Secretary Mr. Brian Montgomery to ask Mr. Michael Gordon Representing the Dunlop Family and sponsors Ballymena Shamrock Celtic Supporters Club to present the trophy to the proud Cushendall FC side who will now contest in the Firmus Energy Ballymena Saturday Morning League 2nd Division next season.
Well done to “The Dall” and of course commiserations to Cullybackey Blues who will no doubt be knocking on the door again for promotion next year.
