Gen Z and Me

19-01-2019 18:01

Here’s the thing… I never assumed I was unaware of my surroundings until I realized I know nothing about pop culture past the year 2012. It’s sad to say my younger self was much hipper, and knew what was cool. Maybe, no scratch that…I have chosen to live in box with my 1960’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s classic hits. I am proud to say I have been broadening my horizons to a few of today’s modern artists here and there. However most of these artists/bands are some variation of rock music, and sound like a product of another time. So what the heck is the rest of my generation listening too??

Now, I can’t just group the entirety of Gen Z into one specific category. Everyone has their own taste in music. I wanted to know what were some defining artists/songs/singles that my generation bopped to. So I asked.

13 of my peers were asked these following questions:

“What were 10 songs you listened to consistently in 2018?”

“What genre of music would you say you listen to the most?”

A favorite among the people seems to be Indie or alternative forms of music. Now this is only based on the following people I asked, but Gen Z isn’t defined. WE LIKE IT ALL! Each person is unique just like our music tastes, or maybe I am actually a grandma. The world may never know.

Also special thanks to everyone who I interviewed! I couldn’t have done this without you!
