Previewing the Nets schedule for the remainder of January
The Nets are currently 21-22 and the 7th seed in the Eastern conference. The Nets have started out January 4-1, and will look to improve on that record. The Nets play 15 games in January, and if they go 10-5 they will show the NBA that they are not a team to be messed with.
The next Nets game is a very tough road game in Toronto tonight. The Raptors are the second seed in the Eastern conference, and are 17-4 at home so I do not expect the Nets to win tonight’s game. The Nets then return home on Monday to take on the Celtics. The Nets will be underdogs, but I can see them pulling out the victory. The Nets always play the Celtics tough at the Barclays Center, and the Celtics will be facing a completely different Nets team than when they played last Monday. The Nets will be well rested going into that game, having the weekend off, so I do think the Nets will pull off the upset at home. Then the Nets travel to Houston to play the Rockets on Wednesday, January 16th. This is another brutal game for the Nets that I do not expect them to win, as the Rockets and James Harden especially have been on fire and unbeatable at home.
After the Nets take on the Rockets, they have a stretch of 4 winnable games in a row. On Friday, January 18th the Nets travel to Orlando to take on the Magic in a game that they should win. The Magic got off to a good start to the season, but they are just 3-7 in their last 10. If the Nets can contain Nikola Vucevic, they will win. Then the Nets return home to play the Kings on Monday, January 21st. The Kings are a bit of a surprise team this year, as they are 20-21 and the 10 seed in the Western Conference. This will not be an easy game for the Nets, but they should be able to pull out the win at home. The Nets the play the Magic on Wednesday and the Knicks on Friday in the same week. These are 2 games that the Nets have to win at home to keep pace with the Miami Heat for the 6th seed. The Knicks always play the Nets tough, but the Nets are 2-1 vs the Knicks this year and the Knicks have been abysmal since the start of December.
2 out of the last 3 games the Nets play in January are tough games. The Nets take on the Celtics again on Monday, January 28th in Boston. The Nets will be looking for revenge for their lopsided loss against the Celtics in Boston on the 7th. The Nets will be playing Boston coming off plenty of rest, so I expect this game to be a lot more competitive. The last easy game the Nets have in January is a home game against the Bulls on Tuesday, January 29th. The only challenging part about this game is that it is the second half of a back to back, but being home should help the Nets out. The Nets wrap up January with a trip to San Antonio to take on the Spurs. This will be a very hard game for the Nets because the Spurs have been playing much better lately, 7-3 in their last 10, and the Nets have not won in San Antonio since the 2001-02 season. All in all, I believe that the Nets should finish January strong and establish their presence in the NBA playoff race.
