The 223rd Derby Della Madonnina takes place this Sunday (17th) evening at 7.25pm, with the game live in the UK via Premier Sports 1.

These two teams meet in very contrasting form, roll back to the previous game in October (2018) which Inter won courtesy of a stoppage time winner from talisman Mauro Icardi, with the Nerazurri 3rd in the table and in the hunt to catch Juventus, whilst Milan languished down in 12th place, with a labouring Gonzalo Higuain up front and Head Coach Rino Gattuso fearing for his job.

Fast forward 5 months and things couldn’t be more different. Whilst Inter are still on course for a top 4 finish, they are doing so by the skin of their teeth with Roma, Lazio and surprise package Atalanta breathing down their necks.

Knocked out of the Europa League this week by Eintract Frankfurt, Icardi stripped of the captaincy and unlikely to play for the Nerazurri again, Inter are labouring, and will be hoping they have enough in the tank to see them through the rest of the season as they are still to face the other 6 teams out of the current top 7.

Milan on the other hand are flying, and come into this game unbeaten in Serie A in 2019, their only defeat coming in the Super Cup against Juventus. 7 wins from their last 10 games and star striker Krzysztof Piatek having scored 8 goals in 9 games since joining the Rossoneri, Gattuso men’s currently sit 3rd a point ahead of Inter. Piatek, backed up by fellow January signing Lucas Paqueta look a force to be reckoned with, the duo having been dubbed the new Kaka and Sheva (Shevchenko) by fans.

Momentum is certainly with the red and black half of Milan coming into this game, with a bumper crowd behind them and with an impressive display from the Ultras of the Curva Sud no doubt. It’s hard to see past a Milan win,

Whilst Inter have slightly edged it over the past 10 years, without Icardi and with increasing pressure on Spaletti, who seems destined to leave in the summer, coupled with Milans new look side flying at the moment and in Piatek they have one of the best young strikers in Europe.

Therefore, we are going for an away win, with Piatek to grab his 20th goal of the season.

Prediction: Milan win 2 -0 with Piatek to score,
