Review: Fame The Musical at Milton Keynes Theatre
Fame the Musical by Selladoor Productions is now at the Milton Keynes Theatre. It’s based on the classic 80s film that tells the tale of many hopeful young people on their journey to stardom and success, whilst weaving through the ups, downs and relationships that come and go with life. The show is set at New York’s High School For The Performing Arts. A school where young hopefuls can practice their craft with the wish to follow their dreams. The show also touches upon many issues faced by many young people, from identity to illiteracy and drug abuse. Fame the Musical features Keith Jack from (Any Dream Will Do, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat) who plays Nick, Mica Paris (from Love Me Tender, Chicago, Mama I Want to Sing) who plays Mrs Sherman and Jorgie Porter (from Hollyoaks) who plays Iris. Many of us will know Jorgie Porter as a fantastic actress from Hollyoaks, but did you know that she’s just as fantastic at dancing? Her ballet dancing within Fame the Musical was just brilliant. She danced with such grace whilst depicting her character so well. Out of all the dancers, the one that stood out to me was Tyrone, played by Jamal Kane Crawford. Within the show Tyrone struggles with reading, but one thing he certainly doesn’t struggle with is his impeccable dancing. High energy, perfected moves, you can’t help but be impressed by him. Stephanie Rojas who plays the part of Carmen has a stunningly strong voice and performs her character so well. Carmen is certainly one character to keep an eye on within Fame the Musical. Throughout the show we’re treated to some truly amazing performances. From incredibly well sung songs to some really enjoyable music pieces from a variety of instruments. Of course, with Fame comes a whole host of well-choreographed dances and this musical production doesn’t disappoint. This show is very much geared towards those who truly love the dancing, acting and musical world. As I’m currently learning to dance to Fame songs in my jazz dance class… I absolutely loved seeing this show!
Fame The Musical is at Milton Keynes Theatre until Saturday 29th June.
