First round action in the 2019 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open tees off seven weeks from this coming Friday. On Tuesday, the tournament announced a few big names that have been added to an already star-studded field list. Tournament Director John Karedes revealed that World Golf Hall of Famers Fred Couples and Larry Nelson, as well as fan favorite John Daly will be participating in this year’s Dick’s Open. Couples has had a very successful professional career which includes winning the 1992 Master’s Tournament and is a two-time PGA Tour Champions major winner. The former world number one has also had success at En-Joie Golf Club, as he won the 1991 B.C. Open. Nelson returns to En-Joie for the first time since 2016. He’s a three-time major winner on the PGA Tour, having won the 1981 and 1987 PGA Championships as well as the 1983 U.S. Open. Daly is back for the fourth-consecutive year. He captured two majors while on the PGA Tour, the 1991 PGA Championship and 1995 Open Championship. He also won the 1992 B.C. Open. Daly withdrew from last year’s tournament after the second round. With a list consisting of seven World Golf Hall of Famers and many other household names, Karedes says it’ll be hard to top the 2019 Dick’s Open. “It is the best field that we’ve ever had. Hopefully, we’ll add a couple more great names to it. It’s only going to continue to get better. When you look at the field, where we’re at today, certainly it’s something that, if you’re a golf fan, you want to come see these names. Again, the great thing about our tour, it’s the only place that you can see hall of fame members still playing competitively. It doesn’t happen in baseball, it doesn’t happen in football. World Golf Hall of Fame members, they’re here, they’re going to be here this year, and you’re going to get to see them play, in person, right here at En-Joie,” he said. The growing field of stars still have about a month and a half until they tee it up at En-Joie. The 2019 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open gets underway on Friday, August 16.

Nosebleed Takes

If you spend even a second in golf Twitter, advocates for women’s golf paint a grim picture of a patriarchal system in golf, where the PGA exists solely to destroy any progress for the growth of women’s golf.  It would seem as though the LPGA and PGA are competitors and the PGA relishes in suffocating […]

VOICE OF THE HWY

CLOSE CHASKA, Minn. (AP) — The LPGA Tour will have a new tournament in Florida at the start of next year, and likely another one in the late spring. The Asian swing of limited-field events at the start of the year is adding a tournament with a full field and a cut. And perhaps the […]

A shocker of a week where nobody really ever looked like contending after Wilson’s opening 67 on Thursday. The first week in the last seven with no returns so hopefully it’s just a blip. Limited time this week so a shorter write-up than normal. (At least that was the plan….) 2019 pts advised = 332.50 […]
