JIMMY ANDERSON is out of England’s Ashes warm-up Test against Ireland tomorrow. The Lancashire bowler, 36, is still struggling with the torn muscle he suffered in his right calf on July 2. James Anderson has given England an injury scare ahead of the Ashes Although he remains confident of being fit for the First Test against Australia at Edgbaston on August 1, his recovery is not as advanced as England were hoping. Any suggestion that Anderson cannot play in the Ashes opener would be a huge setback — especially as Jofra Archer and Mark Wood have already been ruled out. Anderson hoped to play against William Porterfield’s Irish side with a reduced workload as part of his Ashes preparation. But that idea was abandoned yesterday when he felt some  discomfort bowling a few gentle deliveries. He took no further part in practice and had his leg strapped. [article-rail-section title=”Most Read In Sport” posts_category=”4″ posts_number=”6″ query_type=”popular” /] Team medics will be monitoring his progress on a daily basis and he is expected to remain with the squad at Lord’s over the next few days for treatment. If it goes well the King of Swing will attempt more bowling. Anderson, 37 next Tuesday, is England’s all-time leading bowler with 575 Test wicket and was in superb form for his county this summer before his injury.
