Ever since the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival expanded to twin weekends in 2012, it has been a big boon for music fans. Festival producer Goldenvoice also books and operates a lot of other venues in Southern California and there’s ample opportunity to catch some of the bands playing the festival playing full sets around the region. Colloquially known as “Localchella” among fans — and known as Goldenvoice Presents April by the promoter — many events happen before, after and in between April 12-14 and April 19-21, when Coachella takes over the Empire Polo Club in Indio with Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, Ariana Grande and more than 100 other artists. Sign up for our Festival Pass newsletter. Whether you are a Coachella lifer or prefer to watch from afar, get weekly dispatches during the Southern California music festival season. Subscribe here. K-pop girl band Blackpink, which made its U.S. TV debut earlier this week, already announced a show for the Forum in Inglewood April 17.
