Rana Habeeb bid a heartbreaking farewell to Coronation Street after the factory roof collapse (Picture: ITV) Coronation Street bid farewell to Rana Habeeb last night, as the nurse died in heartbreaking scenes after being caught up in the factory roof collapse. The character, played by Bhavna Limbachia, passed away on the day of her wedding to Kate Connor (Faye Brookes) with the pair exchanging vows and rings in the rubble before she died in Kate’s arms. The dramatic and emotional scenes left many viewers in tears – but others were left angry at the direction the storyline had taken – with the soap facing criticism for the way it treated its LGBTQ characters. Some accused the soap of using the ‘bury your gays’ trope – but what has been said? Why are some Coronation Street fans so angry at Rana Habeeb’s death? The decision to kill Rana off has seen viewers suggest the soap has used the ‘bury your gays’ trope – a term for when a popular LGBQT character is killed off in a TV show or film. Other examples of this include the deaths of Tara in Buffy The Vampire Slater, or The 100’s Lexa – and some have now accused Corrie of the same tactics.     What has Bhavna Limbachia said about her exit? The character had been set to marry Kate Connor (Faye Brookes) (Picture: ITV) While there has been criticism, Bhavna Limbachia explained following the episode that it was her decision to leave Coronation Street – and that it was her decision for the character to die. ‘When I told Kate Oates and Iain McLeod that I wanted to leave the show to try other things, it was my decision and my choice for Rana to die because it was the only fitting end to the character. Kate and Rana had fought so hard to be together and they had been through thick and thin together.’ ‘I believe their love was so pure as two souls that there was no way that Rana was just going to have a change of heart, hop in a cab and leave. I felt that if they were to be separated, they had to be torn apart and it couldn’t have been their decision. The only way to go was if Rana were to die. Rana would never leave Kate, ever.’ Rana added: I am proud to be an ally for the LGBT+ community. It wasn’t something that I knew enough about so when I was approached with this storyline, I felt it was important to educate myself about the LGBT+ community and that has changed me as a person. ‘I am definitely a different person coming out of Coronation Street and I am very grateful to Coronation Street for educating me, for giving me the opportunities and for allowing me to grow both personally and professionally.’ Coronation Street airs weeknights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm. (Picture: ITV) Poor Rhona (Zoe Henry). Emmerdale‘s resident vet has had a massively hard time recently, and might be set to go through some even harder ones in the coming episodes. When ex-husband Paddy (Dominic Brunt) decides tonight to share that he and wife Chas (Lucy Pargeter) are having a baby, she’s struggling to hold it together, aware of her own current circumstances. In the episodes that follow, we’ll see Rhona breaking down, and working through a whole load of emotions. But what is going on with Rhona? If you missed what went down a few weeks ago, here’s her story. [metro-video id=”1872134″] The catalyst of the events in Rhona’s life started with a catastrophic tractor accident. Boyfriend Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) crashed into the barn she was standing in, and some thought she might die due to the excessive blood loss. Doctors worked hard to pull her through, though, and Rhona was saved by the surgeons who operated on her bowel. Once Rhona came round, the surgeon explained that while repairing her bowel they had noticed masses in her womb, and it transpired she was suffering from extensive fibroids that would require a hysterectomy to remove. This news shocked Rhona, and brought into focus the fact that – despite the fact her son Leo gets on amazingly with Pete – she will not be able to have children with her younger boyfriend. Rhona seems to take Paddy’s baby news well (Picture: ITV) As a result, Rhona becomes conscious of his age and potential desire for kids at some point, and decides to end their relationship. It’s a hear With Rhona in emotional pain as well as physical, though, it could bring back old temptations (especially to painkillers, which she’s not allowed to be on due to previous addiction issues). The surgery was completed last week, and Pete has been trying to help her through the changes she’s experiencing now she’s had a hysterectomy. However, Rhona is finding it hard to accept the help, and is in bits over what’s going on. Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm. CORONATION Street and EastEnders face a rare schedule overlap next Friday. Soap fans will be forced to pick between them both on the March 29 as Corrie is scheduled for an hour long special to cover the aftermath of the factory roof collapse. Sally Webster will be found in the rubble on Coronation Street Rather than being split into a double bill as usual, the show will start at 7.30pm and not end until 8.30pm, meaning for the last half hour it will go head to head with EastEnders which starts at 8pm. Last week Corrie opted for an hour long special but EastEnders moved its start time back by half an hour. EastEnders will also clash with Emmerdale this evening and on Tuesday, March 26. It’s not the only upcoming scheduling change for Corrie – this week it will not be airing on Friday because of the Euro 2020 qualifier between England and Czech Republic on ITV instead. Coronation Street usually has double episodes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but this week it will air Monday, Wednesday and Sunday. Sally and Gina head to the roof to put up their banners, but end  up rowing which leads to the already precarious roof giving way – and Sally plummets to the floor. The cobbles are going to be rocked when a body is discovered in the factory after a second collapse brings more rubble down on both the victims and the people trying to help them.
