The high-powered telescope community atop Mauna Kea has made scores of key scientific discoveries over the years while keeping its collective eyes focused on the heavens nightly, weather permitting. Border hearings Granted I did not see the entire Congressional hearing in which (acting U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security) Kevin McAleenan was interviewed about the humanitarian crisis on the southern border. What I did see and hear was a constant attack on the conditions that exist on a system that is overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of illegal immigrants crossing the border, and an attempt to blame the Trump administration for this tragic situation. What I did not hear was a common sense question from any member of the committee: “What can we do to help you alleviate the situation that exists now and prevent it from happening the future.” Seems a lot simpler to play the Blame Game than to seek a solution — Paul Quaglia, Billerica Land of immigrants President Trump brags how he is really, really smart. What arrogance! If he were that smart, he would know that we are a country of immigrants. We came here, some were brought here as slaves, and we all contributed to the greatness of America. Even his ancestors came from Germany. If he can claim he was born here, and it’s OK for him to stay, why doesn’t that apply to our elected officials? He says these people should go back to where they came from — No! He is not the smartest. He is the most racist! Actions speak louder that words. Here is a quote that reminds me of Trump: “Out, out, brief candle! Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” — Ann Zawistowski, Walpole Bye, Callahan Congratulations to WEEI radio for finally showing Gerry Callahan the door. Instead of spewing hate for four hours every morning, perhaps they can do what a sports talk show is supposed to do — talk about sports! — Bruce McPhee, West Yarmouth Agrees with Robbins Just read Jeff Robbins’ op-ed. In it, he excoriates the Democratic Party and especially Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for their underwhelming use of the term racism. As soon as I saw his column in the paper I assumed it was another 600 words of badmouthing the duly elected president of the United States or perhaps him finding him guilty until proven innocent. Instead he explains how the overuse of the term racism Is pandemic amongst Democrats. Inside each cloud there was a racial lining and everybody I don’t like is a racist or misogynist or a homophobe or anything I choose to make them. Even Hillary knows that’s deplorable!!!! I can’t believe Robbins finally made sense. Now I have seen everything. — John Koster, Woburn Trump attacked President Trump gets attacked day after day after day by the mainstream media and of course all Democrats in Congress. His recent comments on the four new women in Congress (often referred to as ‘the squad’) was direct, and not to their liking. But, it was accurate and NOT racist. In fact, race was never mentioned. These four women (and others) have indicated a definite dislike for America and have attacked our way of life on a daily basis. They refuse to honor our brave men and women in uniform, threaten our law-enforce personnel and simply refuse to obey our laws and then they attack our president and call him the racist. The president is correct … if they are so unhappy … leave! … Why remain in a place they disdain so much? Unfortunately, they simply fall back to the Democratic playbook and call anyone who is not in agreement with them, a racist. God help us all with such uninformed, inexperienced people like these women calling the shots for our children’s future. — Chris Byrne, Hingham
