Remember when there were barely any superhero films at the cinema? In an interview with The Guardian, French Film Director Louis Leterrier said the world of film was “…getting a little oversaturated in superhero films, and at one point they’re probably going to get boring. Especially if it’s the same type of story – either […]

The fashion industry’s fascination with black has often received a sort of cultish apprehension from spectators. Fashion designers, artists, anybody in the creative field for that matter, can’t seem to leave the color alone. Black is to designers what orange is to Hare Krishnas. A colour that is so deeply embedded into fashion, that it […]

WHEN a man is tired of London he is, so the saying goes, tired of life. But when I felt a bit weary during a recent weekend in London, I retreated to Assembly on Charing Cross Road. Sam visited London The hotel is right in the beating heart of the city, where I would never tire of staying. My room came with a luxurious king-sized bed draped in Egyptian cotton sheets. It also had a huge walk-in power shower with the sort of lush toiletries that are too good to resist taking home for your partner and a balcony overlooking the buzz of Leicester Square some seven floors below that’s perfect for people watching. At the crossroads of cool Covent Garden, touristy Trafalgar Square, stylish Soho and the previously mentioned Leicester Square, this sophisticated yet playful hotel is a most welcome piece of calm among the chaos of England’s capital city. Sam stayed here London laughs With modern interior design inspired by the hippest of Macs — both Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen were fashion graduates of nearby Central Saint Martins College — the generous location of Assembly means there are very few things the tired/inspired traveller could require that aren’t within very easy reach. A bevy of bars wait to rehydrate the thirstiest punter within a pour of a pint. There are dining options by the dozen and the nearest Tube station is just yards away. Sam enjoyed a slap up breakfast with a view Likewise West End theatres, cinemas and art galleries are all within the shortest of strolls from the hotel’s front door. So whether you’re nipping “out” or heading “out out”, this is “central Central” London located and I would wager that most tastes, however exotic, could be catered for within an easy five to ten minute venture from your room — 24hrs a day, every day of every week. I was in town to catch up with some old school pals and with old being the key word, our late night stamina is admittedly not what it once was, which gave even more plus points to Assembly and its rooftop bar. This sky-high dining and drinking hotspot has just recently opened and offers guests and visitors delicious seasonal food and stunning signature cocktails in a stylish setting accompanied by one of the finest panoramic views of London from the hotel’s top floor. After a long day together at the football, and a longer dinner at the magnificent Noble Rot restaurant just around the corner, the Assembly bar was the perfect location for sundowners and nightcaps — particularly if you’re prone to a cocktail or three too many and are in speedy need of a lie down in that Egyptian cotton clad King-sized bed. These destinations look just like the Maldives – but they’re actually much cheaper to get to Despite the proximity to the hustle and bustle of the manic metropolis below, the rooms are peaceful and very sleep inducing. Blackout curtains and some seriously effective soundproofing encourage the deepest of kips in rooms that are minimal in a classy rather than cheap fashion. Gone are the redundant kettles and trouser presses, no more oversized wardrobes or floor-fighting furniture; even the flatscreen telly has been sacrificed in the pursuit of decluttering the rooms and I didn’t miss any of it. [article-rail-section title=”MOST READ IN NEWS” posts_category=”76″ posts_number=”12″ query_type=”popular” /] A good bed, a great shower and some real peace and quiet is the only luxury I required and received. Reluctant as I felt to relinquish this luxury the following morning, I was at least rewarded with a breakfast of champions back in the hotel’s dining room with a view. Tucking into delicious fruit, eggs, sausages, and croissants while enjoying the views of London’s iconic landmarks I felt refreshed and ready to head out into the hubbub once more. Yes, London is tiring. But when you choose a hotel as convenient, effortless and restorative as Assembly then it doesn’t take long to discover plenty of life left in this man. Well y’all. This post has been a LONG time coming – hopefully it was worth the wait! I made a coat! Big whoop, amirite? It’s been a minute since I sewed a real coat – I just don’t live in a climate that warrants a serious need for multiple coats. Which is a bummer because […]
