PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — An injured cat is recovering after someone strapped firecrackers to its paw after a good Samaritan found the animal and got it to safety. Doctors and staff at the Humane Animal Rescue on the North Side have named the cat “Pickels” because of her green eyes. RELATED: Horrific Animal Cruelty: Cat’s Leg Amputated After Someone Rubber-Banded Firecrackers To Her Paw “Pickels” was taken to the Humane Animal Rescue Friday night and she was in pretty bad shape. Someone had tied firecrackers to her left paw with rubber bands and set them off. Dr. Destiny Coleman speculates it probably happened around the Fourth of July. “Her bones and her tendons were all exposed, she didn’t have any nails left. It was infested with maggots, so it was dead tissue. It was not going to be revitalized.” So on Saturday Dr. Coleman made the decision to amputate the animal’s left leg. Ken Skepanski and his wife found the three-year-old cat in their Stowe Township neighborhood and got it to the clinic. “We seen it was injured and we didn’t want any kind of animal running around like that,” Skepanski said. Dr. Coleman is hopeful for a full recovery. “She is doing amazingly well, very social, she is eating, walking around, that paw wasn’t working for her before this, so she was already used to three legs which makes for an easier transition for her,” Dr. Coleman said. The agency’s Humane Officer is investigating animal cruelty and needs more information to bring the person responsible to justice. In the meantime, hundreds of phone calls and messages on social media have been coming in, all wanting to adopt “Pickles.” She will be available for adoption in about a week at the Humane Animal Rescue on the North Side.

Pickles the cat had her leg blown off after an animal abuser tied a firecracker to it. She then spent nearly a fortnight hobbling around in agony, before finally being rescued by two Good Samaritans (Pictures: The Humane Center) A cat was left in agonizing pain and ended up losing one of her paws after a vile animal abuser strapped a firecracker to it. The kitty, who has been named Pickles by rescuers, had her front left paw completely blown off by the blast in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, around July 4. She then suffered almost a fortnight of agonizing pain, before a Good Samaritan saw her and brought her into the city’s Humane Animal Rescue. The center’s medical director Jamie Wilson said: ‘There wasn’t really any paw left. What was still there was barely hanging on by the rubber bands. ‘Her bone was exposed and she was severely dehydrated. Pickles is now recovering from her terrible ordeal, and will be put up for adoption as soon as she is well enough to rehome (Picture: The Humane Center) ‘I had to stop her from eating & drinking too quickly so she wouldn’t get sick.’ The severity of Pickles’ injury, and the length of time she’d spent untreated after it was inflicted meant veterinarians decided the best course of action was to amputate the limb entirely. Thankfully, that procedure was a success. Pickles is now on the road to recovery, and will be put up for adoption as soon as she is well enough to re-home. Friends Kenny and Kellie, who found Pickles and helped save her life said: ‘We had to help. She was badly hurt, and we couldn’t let any animal suffer like that. ‘We feel so relieved knowing that she is in good hands, and that we played a part in saving her life. ‘We wish we could help more animals in need.’

As far as the technicians were able to discern, the enchantment generated a low level lightning effect that the circuitry of the power cell then conditioned and stored as an electrical charge. Thus the enchantment worked […]

According to a study, alcohol consumption presents the highest risk of death, followed by nicotine, cocaine, and heroin. The implication of this study suggests that the risks of alcohol consumption have likely been underestimated in the past. On the other hand, Marijuana was found to be significantly less deadly and sat at the other end […]

What was still there was barely hanging on by the rubber bands,” said Jamie Wilson, Director of Medical Business in the Facebook post. “Her bone was exposed and she was severely dehydrated. I had to stop her from eating and drinking too quickly so she wouldn’t get sick.” The Humane Animal Rescue said the best course of action was to amputate Pickle’s entire leg. Pickles is only three years old, but she’s now expected to have a lot more life left to live. And she’ll soon be looking for her forever home! She’s expected to make a full recovery, and when she does, she’ll be available for adoption.

I have developed a love-hate relationship with medicine over the years. Medicine can do great things. It can also be harmful in cases where medical providers don’t see the “whole person.” I get a lot of questions about my amputation, and the story which led up to it. Usually, I give people the “quick and […]
