HARLINGEN, Texas – According to Harlingen police officials, at approximately 10:30 A.M. on April 19, 2019, a Harlingen Police Officer responded to Walmart at 1801 W. Lincoln St. in response to an assault. The officer made contact with the victim, a 53-year-old female Harlingen resident. The victim told the officer that a male subject, whom was driving a gray SUV, struck her vehicle and then proceeded to flee the scene. The victim stated she had attempted to follow the suspect in order to take a picture of the suspect’s license plate. According to the victim, the male subject then pulled over at the intersection of Haverford and Dixieland and proceeded to assault the victim in an attempt to take her phone. The suspect then got back into his vehicle and fled the scene. David Cortez Jr. was later identified as the suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained. He was located and arrested on June 15, 2019. He is charged with Robbery, a 2nd Degree Felony, and Evading Arrest.

On Monday, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer announced the arrest of Jose Isabel Lechuga, 28, Selma for allegedly making threats of shooting up FAB nightclub on social media. “We have prevented what could have been a mass shooting in our city, ” Dyer said. Dyer said Lechuga made a fake Facebook account called ‘MAGA shooter” with the photo of the suspect responsible in the mass shooting at the Pulse Gay Nightclub in Orlando, which left 49 people dead. In on the messages which was sent to one of the owners, Lechuga writes, “Get those metal wands ready.” “We will make an appearance tonight.” You won’t know who we are but we will be watching.” Guns and a large amount of ammunition recovered in this @fab_fresno arrest. We’re waiting for more information from @FresnoPolice Chief Jerry Dyer. pic.twitter.com/1Y3QpzUcZ2— Pedro Quintana (@PedroQTV) June 17, 2019 Dyer said Lechuga was upset with a video that was posted by the owners of the his mother’s girlfriend. “Lechuga said he was upset due to the social media postings that had been made of his girlfriend’s mother, who had been in the nightclub and had gotten involved in a disturbance, that disturbance was video taped and shared on social media along with some other post,” Dyer said. Detectives served a search warrant at Lechuga’s home in Selma, police finding several handguns and ammunition. “We were able to retrieve over a thousand rounds of ammunition and firearms, so Lechuga certainly had the capability of carrying out this threat,” Dyer said. Terry Story, the owner of FAB said after the threats were made his staff were cautious when letting people into the nightclub. Story said he watched the news conference on social media an saw the guns police had confiscated. “I got a knot in my stomach that’s when it became a reality,” he said. Story said he was glad police were able to make a arrest. ‘I was very appreciative of the community, the love and support that came from many of our friends, again of different sexual orientations and different ethinicity and backgrounds because they what FAB is and what it stands for,” he said. Lechuga was booked into the Fresno County jail and charged with making terrorist threats. If convicted, Lechuga faces up to four years in prison.
