Nacho Monreal remained in London as Arsenal’s 23-man squad departed for Dubai (Picture: Getty) Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has not traveled to Dubai after suffering a calf problem. Unai Emery has started Monreal in a back three for Arsenal’s last five games, with Sead Kolasinac playing at left wing back, and the Spaniard managed 90 minutes of the side’s second-leg win over Rennes in the Europa League. However, Monreal was missing as Emery’s 23-man squad boarded a flight on Thursday. Arsenal’s players are preparing for their Premier League run-in at a warm-weather training camp in Dubai. On Tuesday the Gunners face Al-Nasr Dubai SC to mark the official opening of the newly built Al Maktoum Stadium, but Monreal will not be available for the friendly match. [metro-zone-post-strip] ‘Nacho has not traveled with the squad to Dubai,’ Arsenal’s official Twitter account confirmed. ‘This is as a precaution due to tightness in his calf.’ Arsenal take on Al-Nasr Dubai SC in a friendly match on Tuesday (Picture: Getty) Several youngsters have been taken to Dubai, including the likes of Charlie Gilmour, Zech Medley and Ben Sheaf, along with first-team stars such as Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil and Petr Cech. Hector Bellerin, Danny Welbeck and Rob Holding, who are all recovering from serious injuries, are also present at Arsenal’s camp. [metro-fact-box title=”Arsenal’s squad for Dubai” colour=”pink” icon=”exclamation”] Arsenal’s squad for Dubai: Cech, Leno, Okonkwo, Bellerin, Mavropanos, Koscielny, Mustafi, Jenkinson, Medley, Osei-Tutu, Pleguezuelo, Holding, Sheaf, Thompson, Olayinka, Gilmour, Suarez, Amaechi, Maitland-Niles, John-Jules, Ozil, Lacazette, Welbeck. [/metro-fact-box] Emery believes Arsenal’s trip to Dubai comes at a perfect time ahead of their push for a top-four finish in the Premier League. ‘It will be great to get some warm weather training and break up the usual routine as we enter the final stage of the season,’ he said. ‘The facilities in Dubai are fantastic and it will be an honour to be part of the formal opening ceremony for the new stadium.’ [metro-link url=”https://metro.co.uk/2019/03/22/philippe-coutinho-put-off-manchester-united-move-barcelona-consider-transfer-8984970/” title=”Philippe Coutinho put off by Manchester United move as Barcelona consider transfer”]

BAYERN MUNICH chief Uli Hoeness has made the ludicrous claim that Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour funds their transfers by increasing the price of oil around the world. Hoeness, president of the Bundesliga giants, claims Pep Guardiola has told him what he has to do every time he wants to sign a new player for the club. Uli Hoeness has made ludicrous claims that Man City have their transfers financed by their owners increasing oil prices around the world The 67-year-old, who was sentenced to three-and-a-half-years in jail for £24million tax evasion, has created a scene where City decide on their new signings watching a DVD while enjoying a huge feast. And Hoeness, who has a history of outlandish claims, says Sheikh Mansour coughs up the money and then simply raises the cost oil to recoup his losses. He told a conference in Munich: “My friend Pep told me what happens when he wants a player that costs more than €100 million (£85.9m). “He puts some videos together of the player and goes to see the Sheikh. Once he is there, there is an opulent feast put on during which he teaches the videos to him and the money is transferred. “The next day, the Sheikh rises the price of oil a little bit and recovers the money.” “I’m proud that in such cases we aren’t going to the credit department but the bank’s fixed-income department.” JAILED IN DISGRACE The extraordinary claims have been met with a blank reception by City, who would not even dignify them with a comment and who have never paid more than £60m for a player. Former Bayern and Germany star fell from grace in 2013 when it emerged he had been funnelling money through a Swiss bank account to avoid paying taxes. He admitted seven counts of serious tax evasion before being jailed in disgrace – where he served almost three years behind bars. Along with Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Hoeness has been a loud voice of complaint against the money swirling round English football. [article-rail-topic title=”Latest Man City news” term_id=”1479″ posts_number=”6″ /] Rummenigge was himself fined £200,000 in 2013 for not declaring he had been given two Rolex watches worth £84,000 on a trip organised by the Qatar 2022 World Cup team. The German giants last year signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with Doha Airport, and Qatar Airways became one of its sponsors. In August 2018, Hoeness launched an attack on Mesut Ozil, claiming he had been “s*** for years” after the Arsenal star quit playing for Germany citing “racism and disrespect”. Arsenal have been handed a boost in the transfer market with the news David Alaba is open to a Premier League move. The Bayern Munich ace revealed in an interview he could ‘imagine seeing something else [in the future]’ as he ponders quitting the German side. Arsenal fan David Alaba in action for Bayern Munich. He also admitted a move to a top Premier League side would appeal, along with a switch to Real Madrid or Barcelona, if any interest became concrete. And when pressed about his boyhood love for the Gunners in an interview with Bild, he said:  “I was [an Arsenal fan as a child]. When you’ve been an Arsenal fan as a kid you will be one your whole life in some way.” This has certainly got the club’s supporters excited and they took to Twitter to encourage their current hierarchy to sign the Austria international – still only 26 – as you can see below. I wish we were ambitious enough to go out and sign him… — Arsenal Centro (@ArsenalCentro) March 22, 2019 So is David Alaba trying to get Arsenal to bid for him? He keeps reiterating that he's an Arsenal fan. Would rather Grimaldo or Tagliafico but Alaba is an alright left back.
