In the sporting world, success is lauded and the individuals who succeed can quickly become our very own heroes.  Often, we consider athletes to be strong and invincible, with an almost God-like quality that raises them up high above us lesser mortals.  But, even the fittest of the fit can suffer from tragedy and illness, […]

SIUE Young Adult Literature

I had never heard of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe or the author, Benjamin Alire Saenz until this class. I was immediately interested after reading a summary on the book, and could barely put it down after starting the story. Since we talked so much about Lewis Carroll, J.K. Rowling, and […]

The long chain

When I was ten years old, I had a best friend. Her name was Helen. She lived ten minutes up the road on a smallholding with ponies (!) and had her own (rickety, damp-smelling) caravan, where we used to spend our afternoons hiding from our little brothers, singing Jason & Kylie songs, trying on lipstick […]

Drew's Masc336 Blog

Social media was intended to connect people. The first social media site that could be identified as such was Six Degrees, created in 1997. It included features like a profile and making friends, in some ways similar to Facebook and other social media sites that are popular today. And later, in 1999, blogging was first […]

The Scottish Sun
A CROW bar named Jimmy is one of an array of weapons on offer for smashing up Scotland’s first ever Rage Room. It’s the brainchild of business owner David Torrance, who reckons there’s untapped potential to turn Scots’ pent-up anger into a money-spinner. Graham smashes crockery to pieces The 27-year-old, of Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, welcomes the first fuming punters through the door tomorrow and he’s hoping his violent venture will be a massive hit. He said: “If you’ve had a bad day at work, you can come in and smash up a plate or a TV and it will make you feel great. “We’ve all had that feeling where you feel like launching a mobile phone or a tea cup off a wall. “The Rage Room gives you the chance to do that in a safe, controlled environment — consequence free. Scotland’s first Rage Room coming to Glasgow this summer “You can choose to smash things up with Jimmy the crow bar or Longshot the hockey stick. “We also have Mjolnir — named after Thor’s hammer — and you’ve got Lucille the baseball bat from The Walking Dead.” [bc_video video_id=”6047257439001″ account_id=”5067014667001″ player_id=”default” embed=”in-page” padding_top=”56%” autoplay=”” min_width=”0px” max_width=”640px” width=”100%” height=”100%” caption=”Spanish tennis player Mario Vilella Martinez in epic racket-smashing meltdown “] David reckons it’s the ideal time to open a venue dedicated to channelling people’s fury. He said: “It’s a first for Scotland and to be honest there’s never been a better time to open, with things like Brexit and politicians in general driving everyone crazy. “You’ve also got things like low wages and the rotten summer weather to get you in the mood for some destruction. “There are people with all sorts of problems in life — bad break-ups or job losses — who will want to let off steam, and others who simply want to have some fun. There’s plenty of weapons to use Graham makes light work of a guitar “The best way to think of it is not as anger management, but as a stress reliever.” The kitted-out room has a concrete block in the centre for placing doomed items on before they are obliterated. Customers can trash everything from widescreen televisions to computers, printers and even musical instruments — as their tunes of choice blare through the speakers. It’s located at Xcite Activity Centre in Glasgow, which already has a number of escape rooms like the those on TV’s Crystal Maze. You can even wield a hockey stick David — who runs the firm with mum Linda Torrance, 54 — has also recently launched an Axe Hurling arena at the same complex in the city’s Anderston. The idea of a Rage Room came about as the family mulled over what to do with extra space at the Hydepark Street unit. David says although the concept is out of the ordinary in Scotland, it’s tried and tested elsewhere in the world. He said: “There are a few open in England, but it’s still a very new idea in the UK. The team think there’s a gap in the market “It has been massive in countries like Japan and the USA for many years but has never really taken off in the same way here. “When we revealed plans to open the Rage Room it went crazy on social media. You could see from the response it has the potential to really catch on. “It appeals to the gaming community, who see it almost like a form of role play, and I’m sure we’re going to get a few quirky characters coming in. “The axe hurling opened a few months ago and it’s been heaving with stag parties and hen dos. “We see the potential for the different activities we offer to bounce off each other and create more interest.” Prices for a 30-minute wrecking spree start at £50 for up to four people, who get the chance to make mincemeat of 15 small items and two medium-sized targets like laptops. The luxury package costs £90 for six folk, who are let loose on more than 30 household items and larger goods such as widescreen TVs and guitars. You can even film your wrecking spree on camera mounts inside the room, which also has viewing panels for spectators. David is convinced there are health benefits to letting out anger — but it’s also a whole load of fun. [article-rail-section title=”MOST READ IN NEWS” posts_category=”2″ posts_number=”12″ query_type=”popular” /] He added: “We take safety very seriously and you are kitted out from head to toe. We also have a member of staff present who monitors things at all times. “If you’re coming for stress relief reasons, we would hope you’ll leave with a better attitude and happier outlook on life. If you’re here for fun, we’re sure we can fulfil that.” graham.mann@the-sun.co.uk [bc_video video_id=”5989213616001″ account_id=”5067014667001″ player_id=”default” embed=”in-page” padding_top=”56%” autoplay=”” min_width=”0px” max_width=”640px” width=”100%” height=”100%” caption=”Beijingers vent their stress in ‘anger room'”] We pay for your stories and videos!
