CHILEAN side O’Higgins made an un-Happy Meal of their season’s opener with a loss — but at least they could show off their new McDonald’s-sponsored kit. The Campeonato Nacional club revealed their new pink away shirts with the numbers on the back designed as French fries dipped in tomato ketchup. O’Higgins FC have unveiled a new pink away kit complete with McDonald’s French fries advertised on the back O’Higgins showed off their new jerseys during their 2-1 opening-day defeat to Huachipato The quirky design emerged in their 2-1 defeat to Huachipato in their first game of the league season. And the McNugget of a marketing stunt also had a pack of fries at the bottom of the shirt. Strangely,  marketing chiefs may have to go back to the drawing boards as the yellow numbers can be a little hard to see on the pink background. O’Higgins finished last season in November with a 4-0 win over Audax Italiano, but the McFlurry of goals was not followed up in the opening match of the new season. Maro Antonio Figueroa’s side finished eighth last year, but missed out on a place in the Copa Sudamericana on goal difference by just two strikes to Union Espanola. Chilean club O’Higgins has been the victim of (by far) the worst sponsorships deal in the history of sponsorships. Being sponsored by McDonalds the numbers on the back of the kits are fries… 🍟 Anyone fancies a McDonalds now? pic.twitter.com/aFpQ1PBS1o — The Kit Guru (@FCKitGuru) February 17, 2019 Richard and Robert Abumohor, owners of O'Higgins FC (Rancahuea team). According to the McDonald’s annual report in 2007, the company sell about 4million kilos of French fries every day. A documentary in the UK last year revealed McDonald’s under-served around £33million worth of French fries last year, which the company denied. Fans were impressed with the innovative use of sponsorship, with a series of funny social media reactions — many of them in Spanish. One fan tweeted a hilarious image of Ronald McDonald doing a team talk in the dressing room, while another tweeted a picture of Ronald looking sad after they lost.
