This summer, the New England Air Museum offers a range of events for families and adults in addition to its interactive offerings and collection of aircraft. Helicopter Day and Father’s Day Open Cockpit takes place on Sunday, June 16. Soar into Summer is an eight-week series of hands-on activities including open aircraft cockpits, flight science demonstrations, family hangar tours, computer flight simulators, and more! The Taste of Amherst on the Amherst Town Common is a celebrated annual Welcome Summer event. For over two decades, the Taste is a fun way to eat your way around town in one spot for an affordable $5 per serving. The Four Winds School Summer Writing and Art Camp. Gill, MA. Open to students and non-students alike, the Four Winds School Summer Writing and Art Camp is a fun and safe place for 10-13-year-olds to develop their creativity. In the mornings, campers will engage in both free and structured writing and art activities, including workshops to help campers build on their creative abilities, explore themselves, and bond with their peers. After a break for lunch, campers will enjoy free time, swimming, and group games at the Green River Swimming and Recreation area. In the event of afternoon storms, campers can play board games, continue their morning projects, and play other fun writing and art games. Biocitizen Living Rivers School. Westhampton, MA. The Living Rivers School brings students onto the river & into the conservation biology research of Dr. Boyd Kynard, who is renowned for saving our CT River shortnose sturgeon. For aspiring scientists and activists who love nature and are devoted to taking care of it, Living Rivers provides a rare opportunity to assist Dr. Kynard and get a behind-the-scenes view of how data is collected, analyzed and used to reach conclusions. Activities include collecting data in the CT River with boats, fins, and snorkels, lab work and data processing—physical, mental, social, high-energy fun. Living Rivers provides hands-on life experiences that prepare youths for the Anthropocene. Students will be credited in the research articles Dr. Kynard publishes. Poem in your Pocket Day. On Thursday, April 18 from 11am-4pm, celebrate National Poetry Month with the whole family on this special day at the Emily Dickinson Museum in Amherst, MA! This is very exciting because the theater is gorgeous! It’s a major step-up to a professional theater w/a huge audience base, giving students a chance to perform in a professional venue on a professional stage. This year there will be one Monday-Friday session for the week of Aug 19-23, with 40 openings for children who really love to sing. Maple Days at the Homestead! Celebrate the year’s first agricultural harvest at the Bryant Homestead in Cummington, MA, and experience the magic of maple syrup encountered in the 1800’s! Pancake breakfast in the dining room & parlor, historic boiling demonstration with Dennis Picard, a 19th-century cooking demo featuring Mrs. Bryant’s pancake recipe, an exhibit on the science of sugaring, community art project, maple story-time for kids, and a visit from Sawyer Farm’s draft horses! The New England Air Museum will hold its annual Women Take Flight event on Saturday, March 9 from 10am-4pm in commemoration of Women’s History Month. Visitors of all ages are invited to celebrate women’s contributions to aerospace history through a variety of hands-on activities, special events, and special guest speakers. A family friendly St. Patrick’s Day performance by the Celtic Heels Irish Dance Company celebrating the ancient dance styles and culture of Ireland with a toe-tapping, hand-clapping, lively modern flair takes place on Sunday, March 17 at 3pm at the Academy of Music in Northampton. The Bement School offers summer programs for children from 4 to 15 years old. Children have the opportunity to enjoy the fun of a traditional day camp and help create their own schedule by choosing from our wide range of unique activities. Digging into Nature at Pine Hill provides outdoor education for ages 5-12. The Junior Camp provides a safe, nurturing camp experience for our youngest campers. The Adventure Day Camp offers activity choices that include cooking, movie-making, sports, nature, arts and crafts, and swimming. The Counselor-in-Training program gives young teenagers experience working with children and developing valuable job skills while still enjoying the fun of summer camp. Summer programs run from June 17 to August 9.

Piti Theatre’s 10th annual SYRUP: One Sweet Performing Arts Festival in Shelburne Falls on Saturday, Mar 9 starting with pancakes at 11am! Amherst, MA ♦ A kind of magic happens when you bring together a group of young people who love to write: Over the course of eight days at the Juniper Institute for Young Writers, high school students find access to the writer’s life. Through a curriculum that facilitates wild invention, participants generate new writing, experiment with style and form, access tools for finding inspiration in their day-to-day lives, and learn how to connect with an audience. Learning together in close-knit “pods,” young writers participate in workshops, studio sessions, readings, and field trips.
