Lathrop, deputy commanding general-operations for the 40th Infantry Division at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, is the keynote speaker for Cal State Fullerton’s Dec. 14 commissioning ceremony. Four U.S. Army cadets from the Reserve Officer Training Corps will accept commission for duty as second lieutenants during the 10 a.m. program. The cadets, who are completing or recently completed their bachelor’s degrees at Cal State Fullerton, are: Lyle Lloyd Bruce Burley of Buena Park, psychologyTylor Harper of Fullerton, communications-public relationsAlexander Michael Lopez of Yucaipa, business administration-financeSherin Tara of Anaheim, nursing Steven Dennis Drye of Brawley, who earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration-finance last spring, was commissioned last summer and will be recognized during the December ceremony. Once commissioned, most of the soon-to-be new officers will undergo up to a year of officer training, then report to their respective duty stations in the United States or abroad. Ying-Chiao Tsao, associate professor of communication sciences and disorders, delivered the seminar “Survey Findings of Asian and Pacific Islanders in the Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences: Implications for Recruitment and Support.” Poster presentations included: “Investigation of Speech Motor Learning & Feedback Frequency in Healthy Older Adults” by senior Deborah Hong; graduate students Joshua Stockton, Crystal Munoz and Danielle Urbina; Phillip Weir-Mayta, assistant professor of communication sciences and disorders; and Minjung Kim, associate professor of communication sciences and disorders. “Refocusing the Lens of Learning; Incorporating Interprofessional Education and Standardized Patients Into Graduate Student Education,” authored by graduate students Sarah Green, Stephanie Abbott, Leslie Chen, Urbina, Munoz and Stockton; Weir-Mayta and Barbara Doyer, lecturer in nursing and coordinator of the nursing simulation lab. “Vietnamese Children With ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder): SLP (Speech-Language Pathologists)’s Perspectives” by HyeKyeung Seung, chair and professor of communication sciences and disorders; 2017 alumni Jamie Bui and Ngoc Nguyen; senior San Pham; and graduate student Kristina Iorga. “SLPs’ Perception of Non-Native Accent: A Pilot Survey,” co-authored by Rahul Chakraborty, associate professor of communication sciences and disorders. (Photo courtesy Cal State Fullerton) Mihaylo College gets new leader Brad Anderson has joined Cal State Fullerton as director of the Mihaylo College Sales Leadership Center. “I would like to interest more students in the benefits of a sales experience,” says Anderson, who served much of his 30-year career with Nestle Purina Pet Care Company. “Anyone can benefit from learning to sell. In any vocation, you sell.” The Sales Leadership Center was founded in 2009 with the goal of providing support, networking and applied career readiness experience for students interested in careers in business and sales. Anderson hopes to expand the center’s reach through outreach connected to its initiatives, including the new sales minor, which debuted this semester,  as well as providing a 12-unit complement to any non-marketing major program and expanding professional connections that the center offers.
