Letters from an unknown author!

Reading a published diary is not like reading a normal book, A diary isn’t an autobiography, it’s something slightly different, the thoughts of the writer at the time and not his or her later retrospective thoughts. I am a diarist, though very much an irregular one. Many of my diaries have gaping pages of emptiness […]

More than 200 people listed as missing in the Camp Fire have been found safe, but the number of missing continues to grow. Sheriff Kory Honea said at a press conference Wednesday that 130 people are missing, but later that evening the list had grown to 297 names. It’s a rapidly changing list as people call three hotlines, the sheriff explained. On Wednesday, after the list was first released, several names were taken off the list but more were added. [related_articles location=”left” show_article_date=”false” article_type=”automatic-primary-tag”]“We are trying to get this information out as best we can,” Honea said Thursday morning, “but it’s a fluid situation. We can’t wait until the list is perfect. We think it’s more important to get the names out there and try to identify people who others think are missing.” The Sheriff’s Office asks: “If you are one of the individuals listed, please contact the Butte County Sheriff’s office Missing Person Call Center to advise that you are safe and there is no further need to search for you. The numbers are (530) 538-6570, (530) 538-7544 and (530) 538-7671.” Some last names, first names and ages were unknown to the person who reported them missing. CHICO — The number of people listed as missing in the aftermath of the historically deadly Camp Fire skyrocketed to more than double the figure previously given, and now approaches 300, according to the latest list issued by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office. [related_articles location=”left” show_article_date=”false” article_type=”curated” curated_ids=”5702283″]There are 297 entries on the document released late Wednesday, far more than the 130 announced at a news conference a few hours earlier in Chico. It does contain some people who have already accounted for. Sheriff Kory Honea said Wednesday that 130 people are missing, but by the end of the night the official total had grown to 297 names. It’s a rapidly changing list as people call three hotlines, the sheriff explained. On Wednesday, after the list was first released, several names were taken off the list but more were added. “We are trying to get this information out as best we can,” Honea said Thursday morning, “but it’s a fluid situation. We can’t wait until the list is perfect. We think it’s more important to get the names out there and try to identify people who others think are missing.” The list was posted to sheriff’s office website following the news conference. Honea, at the news conference, asked people to check the list. “If you find your name on that list, please call my office and speak to one of our investigators to advise us that you are safe and well so that we can move on to other cases,” he said. “If you have reported someone as missing or unaccounted for and you have located them, we also ask you to call and let us know so that we can remove their name from that list.” The numbers to call are: 530-538-6570 530-538-7544 530-538-7671 Honea said the list will be regularly updated. “My sincere hope is that over time the list will get shorter and shorter until we’ve been able to account for everybody,” he said. The fire, which broke out Nov. 8, has killed at least 56 people and destroyed more than 10,000 structures. As of Wednesday night, it had consumed 138,000 acres and was 35 percent contained. Some last names, first names and ages were unknown to the person who reported them missing.
