PEP GUARDIOLA hit back at reports Manchester City were “arrogant” and “disrespectful” during their visit to China last week. The champions had matches in Shanghai and Nanjing but were accused of ignoring supporters and only going for the money. Pep Guardiola has hit back at claims by Chinese media that Manchester City were “arrogant” and “disrespectful” Yet Guardiola said the story was false and insisted his club will have no issues about going back there in the next couple of years. He said the club’s spell in China – which had to be shortened due to travel problems leaving Manchester – was an “incredible experience”. Asked about the report that appeared on the Chinese government run Xinhuaonline, Guardiola said: “I should say I don’t agree and also that it’s false. “To make a statement like this they have to know exactly what happened here in our club. “We had an incredible time in Shanghai. All the people asking us to do things we were ready to do that. “We came here – it’s an unique experience because it’s not easy to come to Asia during the season. “To come to Asia and experience the culture, the restaurants. It’s amazing to get to know other people. “That’s why I can’t understand what people are saying – maybe one journalist is a bit upset, I don’t know why – but it’s far away from the reality.”
I completely disagree with the journalist – that’s not the reality… I’m so proud of what we’ve done. all the marketing departments, all the people who’ve organised this tour.
City’s itinerary for their time in China had to be squeezed due to their out-going flight being cancelled twice. That meant they had two fewer in the country than they had initially planned for. Yet Manchester City sources have pointed out they organised fan events before the games in both Nanjing and Shanghai. There were also Fan Zones at both games which were open to anyone who had a ticket for the game. And there was an open training session in Shanghai – within hours of their arrival – which was followed by a signing session. Guardiola added: “We came to Shanghai and 23 hours later we travelled two hours by train to play in Nanjing then back to Shanghai. “Now we are here in Hong Kong and then back to Tokyo. And always with the biggest smile. We don’t sleep too well during the night but even so we make good training sessions for all the guys. I’ve been impressed with my players so far and let’s see for the rest of the tour. “I completely disagree with the journalist – that’s not the reality. “For our club it’s a huge experience to go abroad to other countries because we are not Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich. They’ve been doing it for many years. For us it’s a new experience every season, it will help on the pitch and we did it last season. GARETH BALE did not play against Bayern Munich… because he decided he didn’t want to. That is according to Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, who has taken another swipe at his unwanted winger. Gareth Bale did not play against Bayern Munich… because he didn’t want to, insists Zinedine Zidane Zidane’s stinging comments at the weekend – that Bale is “very close to leaving” and it would be “best for everyone” when he does – caused an angry reaction from the player’s agent Jonathan Barnett, who labelled the Frenchman a “disgrace”. But addressing the media ahead of his side’s pre-season clash with Arsenal, Zizou reiterated his stance, insisting he has not disrespected Bale and the club are still actively trying to get rid of the Welshman. Zidane said: “At times my Spanish is very suspect. I want to be very clear about this. “Firstly, I have not disrespected anybody and least of all the player. I have always said the same, the players are the most important and every time I am with a player here I will be with them always. “The second thing, I said the club is trying to sell him. Full stop. “Third point, I think it is very important and crucial to say that the other day Gareth did not change because he did not want to. “He said the club was trying to negotiate his departure, and he didn’t want to play because of that. “Now we are going to reinitiate. He will train with us today. He will train with the squad today but tomorrow is tomorrow. “Gareth is a Real Madrid player. That is the most important thing, he is a player for the squad. “[His] situation is known by everyone and will not change. The club is going to do what they have to do with him.” WHERE NEXT? Zidane added that “Bale hasn’t asked not to play tomorrow – so far” so could be involved against his former North London rivals in Washington. But clearly not wanted by his manager, the £85million man will no doubt be weighing up his options. A return to the Premier League seems unlikely due to his wages – currently around £600,000 per week. Bayern Munich have been linked as they look to replace Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben this summer. But the most likely destination as things stand is the Chinese Super League, with clubs prepared to make him the first £1m-a-week footballer. Beijing Guoan and Jiangsu Suning are both allegedly offering that money, with one sensational report in China claiming Bale has already agreed to join the latter. But Bale is understood to prefer to stay in Europe and a swap deal which would see Neymar leave Paris Saint-Germain for the Bernabeu.
