A lot of the original cast are returning ( The first trailer for the Downton Abbey movie has been released, giving fans a first look at what they can expect. It will see many of our favourite characters return for the first time since the Emmy-winning show came to an end in 2015. The new film will be set in 1927 and it will see King George V and Queen Mary visit the Yorkshire country estate. Here is everything you need to know about the cast and when you can expect to see the film in cinemas. When is the Downton Abbey movie release date? The movie is set to be released in UK cinemas on Friday 13 September. A film based on the popular period drama was first announced in July 2018, although rumours of a movie released began soon after the TV series came to an end. Who is in the Downton Abbey cast? Many of the lead characters from the TV series will be making a return for the film. Hugh Bonneville will be back as Robert Crawley, along with Laura Carmichael as Lady Edith, Jim Carter as Charles Carson and Brendan Coyle as John Bates. Maggie Smith will also be returning as Violet Crawley, and features towards the end of the trailer.
