Loveland Fire Rescue Authority firefighters prepare to leave the scene after trying to locate the location of a lightning strike Friday at the Brookstone Apartments in east Loveland. (Photo by Jenny Sparks/Staff Photographer) Loveland Fire Rescue Authority responded shortly about 12:30 p.m. Friday to Brookstone Apartments, 2325 E. First St., after a resident called in to report that lightning had struck one of the buildings. LFRA Operations Chief Greg Ward said that crews arrived to find residents had evacuated one of the buildings, as the lightning strike had tripped one building’s fire alarms. However, firefighters were unable to find the exact location of the strike. Ward added that no one was injured as a result of the strike. Soon after arriving, crews found no fire at the complex. Ward said some utility boxes had sustained damage, though power remained on throughout the complex. He added that Loveland Water and Power also arrived on scene to test electric lines and property managers of the apartment complex soon took over to evaluate alarm systems and cable TV lines. Ward said the initial report of a fire at the multifamily residential property warranted a “full structure assignment,” complete with three engines, a heavy rescue apparatus, a tower truck, battalion chief and a Thompson Valley EMS ambulance.
