Box 8181, Eureka, CA, 95502 This year’s inductees are Tim Allen, Class of 1965; Maria Matteoli, Class of 1994; and Alice Thrap, a Friend of St. Bernard’s. Allen graduated from SBHS in 1965. He and his wife, Kayla, have three children, Jeremy, Tricia and the late Shannon Roys. He is the executive director of the Carlston Family Foundation, which recognizes and rewards outstanding teachers in California public high schools. Allen earned his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and teaching credential at Humboldt State University. He began his teaching career at Arcata High School in 1970, where he taught English, coached baseball and football and was the director of student activities before becoming an administrator. As an administrator, he created one of the first high school substance abuse prevention, education and training programs in the U.S. In 1982, he left education to become program administrator, president and CEO for substance treatment programs in Florida and Southern California. He then became vice president for Contracting and Behavioral Health at Adventist Health Care of Southern California. Allen has returned to participate in numerous SBHS golf tournaments and SBHS All Alumni school reunions. Matteoli is a 1994 graduate of St. Bernard’s High School. She is married to Tim Probst and has two children, Ledo and Sequoia. She is a filmmaker, writer, director and producer. She has written two feature films and, out of 7,000 scripts, was a finalist for the Oscar’s Academy Nicholl Fellowship. She took home the top prize at a film festival in Portugal and is also a member of several national and international film organizations. In high school, Matteoli was involved in drama and art. Thrap is a much-loved educator who taught for over 50 years as a teacher and administrator. She’s touched many lives in her career at various schools: Hydesville, Rio Dell, Toddy Thomas, Glen Paul, St. Bernard’s Junior High and St. Bernard’s High. Many people will recognize her as the basketball scorekeeper, a job she loves and has done since 1968. She has also been involved in theater and politics and also played cello in the Humboldt Symphony. She has two sons, Phil and Steve, six grandsons and four great grandchildren.Thrap has been an active part of the St. Bernard’s High School community for many years.
