Capital City Concerts

For this post, I’ve decided to take a break on recapping my favorite concert moments to discuss some of the crucial mistakes people make when preparing or lack there of for the Austin City Limits Festival. I’ve included some must-haves for the festival and a few things to avoid as well. DO: Pack for the […]

I have a lot of beauty trash to sort through and I needed these products out of my way before the end of 2018. If you’re new to empties, here’s the skinny–these are products that I completely used up. I give mini reviews and tell whether or not I would repurchase. It’s a good way […]

To Jump The Gun (def): to do something too soon, especially without thinking about it. (aka: what could go wrong). Leads to saying things such as “It’s fine.” Sounds like a perfect combination for my 600km qualifier for PBP.

My family always does a white elephant gift exchange or something similar! It’s such a fun tradition! This guide is full of great white elephant gifts all under $15.00. These gifts are definitely on the girly side, but they make great gifts! 3rd&Manageable

The criteria by which our distinguished panel[1]based their evaluation on is simple: a player’s selection is solely based on the presentation of their arms, independent of any other variable, football related or otherwise. Now let me make this clear, the panel and I have done a disgusting amount of research to compile this list. This […]

Photo from Bigelowchemists.com Not all stocking stuffers have to be ChapStick, socks and M&Ms bought in a rushed visit to the pharmacy 24 hours before Christmas. In fact, I have a couple of friends who have decided to give up on the stocking tradition altogether in the last few years, rather than just keep going through the motions. But rather than give it up (I mean, who doesn’t love getting little gifts? After all, the more, the merrier.) I’ve decided to kick things up a notch, and put a little more panache into stocking stuffers. In some cases — though certainly not all — that means they may cost a little more. What it does mean is carving out a little more time a few weeks ahead of Christmas to find or order things that you won’t find at every supermarket. For example: Instead of the aforementioned ChapStick, what about opting for C.O. Bigelow’s Mentha Lip Shine/Breath Freshener – No. 502 ($7.50 at bigelowchemists.com)? The smooth-as-silk, mint-infused balm is a true mini-luxury — more of a gloss than anything. Warning: Its extra-minty flavor is as addictive as its sexy sheen, so don’t be surprised if you wind up buying it year-round. Everyone wears chunky wool knit scarves this time of year (which rarely fit into a stocking anyway), but what about one that’s great for wearing indoors, and is the perfect, simple-but-sassy accessory to someone’s look? The versatile designs at South Street Linen — a woman-owned shop in Portland, Maine — prove that linen can (and should!) actually be worn year-round. It keeps you warm indoors but breathes like a dream, and is soft as can be against your skin. This time of year I love their Red and Orange Stripe with Plum Dots ($118 at southstreetlinen.com) for a bright punch of bold color. What’s one thing men, women, boys and girls all need now and then? A handy pocket mirror that magnifies for emergency brow tweezing, mascara fixes and all-around grooming. It’s one of the things no one thinks thinks they need until they use it once, and then they find it indispensable. One great one is the Compact Pocket Magnifying Makeup Mirror ($7.68 at amazon.com). The “mini size” section at Sephora is a boon to Christmas stockings everywhere — they stock everything from Smashbox lipstick sets to Urban Decay shadow palettes. But I’m especially partial to the miniature tubes of L’Occitane shea butter hand cream ($12 at sephora.com). Better still, they come in subtly perfumed scents like cherry blossom, lavender and rose. And in lieu of the standard M&Ms (or in addition to them, for those of us who simply can’t get enough chocolate), elevate your cocoa fix with one of Europe’s most delicious treats, Ritter Sport, in a panoply of utterly delish flavors: If you’ve never tried the incredibly high-quality German-made masterpiece, now’s the time. They come filled with everything from roasted hazelnuts and delicate marzipan to praline, crispy cornflakes, crunchy organic shortbread and yogurt. And ideal for stockings, you can grab a big box of them in miniature sizes and spread them around in the entire family’s stockings, in every flavor. ($37.50 for 84 bars at amazon.com.) And then, if you want to be truly unconventional, you can always surprise the man in your life by hiding his splurge present in his stocking. Something like the Men’s Travel Atomizer Coffret ($275 at creedboutique.com) will definitely do the trick. The limited-edition case of Creed — one of the world’s great high-end men’s fragrances, worn for generations by the British Royal Family — comes with three coveted men’s scents: Aventus, Green Irish Tweed and Silver Mountain Water. The set also comes with a 10 ml black leather pocket atomizer with silver trim.

The giant Furby consumed the room at FAO Schwarz, downtown New York City. Grant was petting its hair in between fake karate punches and kicks.
