Anaheim-based SeniorServ was selected as a 2019 California Nonprofit of the Year in conjunction with California Nonprofits Day on June 5. Nominated by State Assemblymember Tyler Diep, SeniorServ is Orange County’s largest nonprofit Meals on Wheels provider. SeniorServ CEO Holly Hagler received the award at the state capital. The brand was founded in 1996 by the mother/daughter team of Colleen Winter and Debra Cannon. The company started as a vintage boutique in Chico and then transitioned purely online in 2008. The sales will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 20 to Sunday, June 23 and again from Thursday, June 27 to Sunday, June 30. The brand uses social media sites like Pinterest and Instagram to attract its core shopper: millennials looking for bargain fashion. Address: 1400 Village Way, Santa Ana 92705. The complex is just off the 55 Freeway near Rockin’ Jump and the Rip Curl outlet. The company last year secured $120 million in seed money from IVP and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Smokey tacos  in Tustin Mezquite Tacos & Fuego opened June 3 in a shuttered Chronic Tacos location in Tustin. Javier Fregoso is the founder of Mezquite Tacos, which touts a mesquite wood grill that gives the meat and vegetables a smoky flavor. Tacos run from $2.75 to $3.50 and include traditional steak, chicken and pork. Specialty tacos include a vegetarian option, thick taco with meat or shrimp and a quesataco made with Oaxacan cheese. Fregoso also makes house-made tortillas, salsas, and aguas frescas. Non-taco fare includes a tostada called the Volcan (Oaxacan cheese, meat and egg), nachos and the Mad Potato (baked potato with toppings). Fregoso grew up in Calexico where he says he learned all about great tacos, according to a company statement. He moved to Los Angeles in 2008, and in 2010 he launched Mexicali Taco & Co., selling tacos from a cart and a pickup truck. In 2016, the company was rebranded and work began on brick-and-mortar locations. The Tustin restaurant is his first.
