SANTA CRUZ — On Thursday, Dec. 13, from 6-7:30 p.m., a representative from Sufferfest Beer Company will discuss—and offer samples of—their five styles of award-winning beers (IPA, Pale Ale, Blonde, Kolsh, and Pilsner). These “super-beers” are brewed to meet the needs of athletes and adventurers. Cost is $14. From 1-2 p.m., and again at 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, Certified Nutrition Consultant Madia Jamgochian will give a free talk: “Spice Up Your Life and Health with Holiday Spices.” She advocates that this is the season to incorporate warm and spicy flavors into dishes to improve taste and promote good health. On Thursday, Dec. 20, from 6-8:30 p.m., chef Eric Adema will give a hands-on cooking class on raw vegan holiday desserts. Participants will prepare five selections: almond frangipane cookies with lemon pear caramel, mini chocolate cream cakes, key lime pie, blueberry lemon “cheesecake,” and carrot cake cupcakes with cashew cream icing. Cost is $45 or $40 each for two people registering together. Classes are at the Westside New Leaf Community Classroom (1101 Fair Ave.). Space is limited and preregistration is required (even for free events) at newleaf.com/events.
