ARMED raiders smashed their way on to the set of Corrie while stars filmed scenes of a robbery. Police were called after a gang targeted the set while the soap was filming on location. Steve McDonald becomes an unwitting getaway driver after a passenger robs  a shop Cast including Simon Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald on the famous cobbles, were shooting scenes in Bolton which saw his character unwittingly become a getaway driver when a shop is robbed by balaclava-wearing thugs. Greater Manchester police yesterday confirmed they had attended following reports of an alleged armed robbery at around midday, when a gang of men targeted the nearby “unit base” and stole electrical equipment. A source on set revealed: “The crew were very shaken up by the incident. Nobody is quite sure exactly what happened because it was all so fast, but it’s a huge worry for everyone. “They made off with a very expensive electrical generator, but it was obviously a targeted attack because of all the kit on site and it could have been a lot more. Steve McDonald unwittingly picks up a thug in the soap Simon Gregson has played Steve McDonald in Corrie for 30 years “There has always been security on set and we often film on location around Manchester and the surrounding area, but going forwards we’re talking about increasing that to ensure there are no repeats of this.” The incident took place near to Bolton’s Rugby Union Club where bosses had set up the equipment for the nearby shooting. A police spokeswoman said: “Greater Manchester Police were yesterday called to reports of a suspected armed robbery at around 11.30am.” The storyline sees Steve McDonald, a veteran of the soap for 30 years, unsuspectingly pick up a fare in his character’s taxi before driving to a nearby garage – where his passenger orchestrates a hold-up and orders the cabbie to drive him away at speed.   [article-rail-section title=”most read in showbiz” posts_category=”0″ posts_number=”6″ query_type=”popular” /] Forthcoming scenes will see cops knock at his door and accuse him of being involved in the incident. CORONATION Street’s Carla Connor can be seen sitting in the street shaking after going awol in upcoming scenes for the ITV soap. The devastated character is blaming herself for the Underworld factory’s roof collapse – which killed Rana Habeeb earlier this week. Carla looks shell-shocked following the accident Following the tragic disaster, Carla – played by Alison King – will take centre stage, with Rana’s death having a devastating impact on her mental health. New photos now show the character shivering on the street as she is seemingly comforted by Robert, played by Tristan Gemmill. The two actors were spotted filming on location, with Carla looking shell-shocked as she hugs her knees to her chest and stares at the ground – clearly struggling to come to terms with what has happened in Weatherfield. The factory boss is dressed in black leggings, a black jumper, grey gilet, and scruffy trainers. Robert seemingly stops to comfort his former foe At one point the factory boss pushes Robert’s hand away Robert looks his typically suave self in a blue suit and smart shoes. The character has a concerned look on his face as he appears to offer comfort to his foe, who he blames for the break up of his and Michelle’s relationship and at one point, Carla can be seen pushing Robert away. However, there is a chance that Robert’s concern is actually the result of a guilty conscience, with the businessman one of the six suspects in the frame for causing the roof collapse. The reason that Carla blames herself for the accident is because she was told that the roof of her company needed replacing and she refused to hold off production on a huge order to fix it. Meanwhile, Gary and Nick both knew that the roof was unsafe – which might have inspired them to take the opportunity to cause an accident.
