Professional sports has exclusive clubs, such as the 3,000 hits club in Major League Baseball. High school lacrosse also has an exclusive club, the 300 career points club. Three boys lacrosse players in Orange County have reached the impressive milestone this season. For context, only one Orange County player reached 300 career points in 2018, Quentin Buchman of Santa Margarita who now plays at Notre Dame. This season, Kevin Groeninger of St. Margaret’s, Holden Evans of Trabuco Hills and Carson Spooner of Tesoro have accomplished the feat. Groeninger was the Orange County Player of the Year in 2018 and hasn’t missed a beat in his senior season. The Bryant University commit and U.S. Lacrosse All-American averaged 5.8 points per game as a junior and reached 300 career points against Woodlands of Texas in a 12-10 win last month. Groeninger scored six goals in that game and continues to be an integral part of the success of the best team in the county. “It is so rewarding for a coach when the hardest working player attains his goals,” St. Margaret’s coach Glen Miles said. “KG works on his stick work and his shooting harder than any player I’ve ever coached. Accumulating this number of points, while drawing the top defender in every game for the last three years, is quite special.” Trabuco Hills is the county’s breakout team of 2019 and that is partly due to the success of All-County midfielder Holden Evans. The Colorado Mesa commit had 210 points entering his senior season and reached the 300 mark in a 21-3 win over Servite on April 1, when he scored nine goals. Trabuco is 14-1 and will be a top-three seed in the Orange County playoffs because of offensive weapons like Evans, Jared Friesen and AJ Switzer. “Holden is an exceptional player and frankly has been for a long time. He started as a freshman on a team with 18 seniors,” Trabuco Hills coach Eric Bassett said. “He’s unselfish and highly respected by his teammates. Truly the heart of the team.” Tesoro attackman Carson Spooner most recently achieved the milestone when the Titans beat Santiago of Corona 5-4 on April 15. Spooner had 107 points as a junior in 2018 on the best team in Tesoro history and is averaging nearly seven points per game this season. Around the county • The Aliso Niguel boys lacrosse team defeated Dana Hills 13-10 on Thursday to win the Sea View League championship, the school’s first league championship since 2014. Carson Poremba scored six goals for the Wolverines and freshman Mikey Laderer added four. “The boys earned it. I told them in the locker room after the game that we coach, but they are the ones who go through practice everyday and put in the hard work,” Aliso Niguel coach Zach Henderson said. “They are the ones that earned it and they can have this pride for the rest of their lives.” • The Foothill girls team is the last undefeated team in Orange County. The Knights, led by first-year coach Cristina Johnson, beat fellow perennial contender Mater Dei 22-14 on April 13. Cal commit Brooke Williams has 55 goals for Foothill and junior Ashley Stokes has 102 points, which is the second most in the county. • The Santa Margarita boys team defeated Servite 12-8 on Wednesday to win its fourth consecutive Trinity League championship and the first under new head coach Paddy Chester. Tyler Wrightson scored four goals for the Eagles and attackmen Jack Allender and Connor Kentros scored within 36 seconds of each other to take the lead for good midway through the fourth quarter. • The Edison boys team is having its best season in school history but might be left out of the playoffs. In the U.S. Lacrosse Orange County playoffs, every league champion is guaranteed a playoff bid. Edison (9-5, 3-3) finished fourth place in the competitive Sunset League, but the last playoff spot will be occupied by the likely Pacific Coast League champion, Beckman. The Chargers are also ranked ahead of Great Oak of Temecula and Murrieta Mesa, which are the Co-SoWest League champions and one of them is guaranteed a playoff berth.

It’s no secret that most of my wardrobe is black. I’m an eldergoth, after all. Still, an all-black ensemble with jet black hair and ruby lips can read as severe and intimidating to small town normies, so I try to pepper my work outfits with pops of color, usually red or green. Everything you see […]
