Audio of public-safety first responders approaching and assessing the scene of a car that crashed into a crowd of pedestrians at El Camino Real and Sunnyvale Avenue on Tuesday afternoon reveals officers moving quickly to call for more police, ambulances and the FBI as they tried to figure out how the crash had unfolded. Isaiah Joel Peoples, 34, of Sunnyvale, has been arrested on suspicion of driving into the crowd of pedestrians in what police say may have been an intentional act.   “This is appearing to be an intentional act,” one official says during the calls. “We’re going to need the Bureau to respond out here as well,” an apparent reference to the city’s criminal investigative bureau. Isaiah Joel Peoples, 34, of Sunnyvale, is suspected of driving into a crowd of pedestrians at El Camino Real and Sunnyvale Avenue in Sunnyvale on April 23, 2019, injuring eight, in what police say might have been an intentional act. (Sunnyvale Dept. of Public Safety) Peoples is accused of injuring eight people, including a 13-year-old girl. One witness said that Peoples stumbled out of a 2010 Toyota Corolla after the crash, mumbling, “I love you, Jesus.” Peoples has a clean driving record and a valid driver’s license and car registration, according to the DMV. A search of court records found that he had no known criminal history in Santa Clara County. Law enforcement officers said that, based on the lack of skid marks indicating an attempt to slow down or stop before hitting the victims, the crash appeared to have been intentional. Capt. Jim Choi, of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, said witnesses told police that Peoples might instead have sped up the dark-colored Toyota Corolla before the rampage ended with his car crashing into a tree. #gallery-6017927-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-6017927-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-6017927-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-6017927-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */ SUNNYVALE CA – APRIL 24: Police stand guard at an apartment complex in Sunnyvale, Calif., Wednesday, April 24, 2019, believed to be the residence of a driver suspected of plowing into a crowd of people in a busy Sunnyvale intersection Tuesday.
