MCCLOUD — The Pleasant Valley High boys snowboarding team captured the California Nevada Interscholastic Ski and Snowboard Federation state championship Monday at Mount Shasta Ski Resort. The Vikings scored the highest combined total out of 30 team from California and Nevada. PV won the giant slalom competition and was led by junior Ryan Dyrr. Dyrr finished with a combined time of 1 minute, 58.8 seconds to finish sixth out of 82 racers in the giant slalom event. Dyrr finished his first run in 1:02.47 and his second run in 56.33. Senior DJ Merrill took eighth in 2:00.58, Tyler Mays finished 13th in 2:03.63, Aidan Osgood was 20th in 2:06.48 and Tanner Clift finished in 21st in 2:06.55. Austin Metroka finished in 2:12.99 and Mason Boslow finished in 2:20.59 to round out the Vikings’ day in giant slalom. Merrill and Metroka each tied for seventh place out of 82 racers in the slalom event held on Tuesday. Dyrr finished 16th, Mays placed 25th, Clift was 31st and Osgood took 76th. Chico High had three competitors in the boys giant slalom race. Colin Hoffman led the Panthers with a 19th place finish in 2:06.27. Brodie Schreder finished the course in 2:10.46 and Bryce Thomas finished in 2:28.36. The Pleasant Valley girls snowboard team was led by senior Riley Cotter, who took 12th with a combined time of  2:13.85 in giant slalom. Deagan Nevis finished in 23rd in 2:25.25 and freshman Madison Hurd took 51st. Chico’s Ziona Jankuska finished in 11th place in the girls snowboard giant slalom race. Jankuska finished with a combined time of 2:13.79. The PV boys and girls snowboard team also took first in the Central 1 Division earlier this year. PV beat out Chico, Del Oro, Sacramento Country Day and Quincy. The state championships continue with the ski competition to be held on Thursday. The ski races were originally scheduled for Wednesday but were postponed due to unsafe weather conditions on the mountain.
