Gary McAllister was attacked in Leeds over the weekend (Picture: Getty Images) Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister was hospitalised in the early hours of Sunday morning after an attack in Leeds city centre. The 56-year-old had been in Liverpool on Saturday, watching a Liverpool legends team take on their AC Milan counterparts before returning to West Yorkshire. [metro-zone-post-thumbnail-link] The Scot is believed to have been waiting for a taxi at around 4am when he was punched in the face, leaving him requiring hospital treatment. West Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident and they released a statement giving some details about the shocking incident. Mcallister was watching a Liverpool legends game at Anfield on Saturday (Picture: Getty Images) The police statement, released on Monday, read: ‘We are investigating an assault that occurred in Call Lane in Leeds city centre at about 4am yesterday. ‘The initial report was that a man, aged in his fifties, was stood outside a bar when a man approached him and punched him in the face causing injuries that required hospital treatment. ‘We are currently arranging to speak to the victim to take fuller details of the incident and will be progressing the investigation to identify the person responsible.’ Gary McAllister is working as Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Rangers (Picture: Getty Images) Rangers are yet to make a comment on the incident, although the team was not due to train on Monday, so McAllister has not yet had to miss any time at work as a result of the attack. Their next match is Sunday’s Glasgow derby away to Celtic as they look to snap a four-game winless streak.
