As you can see here, we cleared the patio this past Sunday so hubby could power wash it to remove all the moss that had accumulated.  I did manage to transplant some first.  After it was cleaned we dumped more paving sand on it and swept it into the cracks.  We wanted to get it […]

My taxi driver this morning was an orthodox Jew in his 70s. People this old don’t usually work unless it is necessary. I felt awful when he had to lift my hefty suitcase and put it in the trunk. But there is no way I could have managed to do it myself. My driver had […]

I was finally back in the Old City. We began on the steps that Jesus might have walked on to enter it. Now it is an archaeological park and the gate to which the steps lead to is no longer there. But it was awesome just to sit and meditate on those steps! Then we […]

We started the day with the panoramic view of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives. Truthfully, it was too cold to enjoy it. I must have been the only one of the Slow Pokes who have not checked the weather app that morning. Everyone except for me wore jackets and sweaters. Luckily, Jerusalem’s climate is […]

So I was back in Jerusalem, having my first late morning since I left home. I chose not to go with my group to a few Zionist engagements scheduled for us this morning. While I was no longer as passionately anti-Zionist and anti-Israel as I was when flying in, I was still not ready for […]

GLAM racegoers dressed to the nines today as the sun finally came out for the Royal Ascot. Women donned summery frocks and fascinators for the fourth day of the races – one of the biggest events in the Royal calendar. Among the boozy crowds famous faces included movie star Demi Moore, Rebekah Vardy and Dennis Wise, Sarah Ferguson and ITV’s Charlotte Hawkins. Women made sure to dress to impress, showing off an array of fashions from black and lacy to bright and red. As per tradition, wacky costumes were a must this year – with women donning the biggest and boldest hats and dresses and knocking back a few glasses of champers. It comes after the ladies let their hair down yesterday to mark a boozy Ladies Day by the trackside. The Queen will again make an appearance at the races today, after visiting every day this week. Mark Heyes and Charlotte Hawkins made an appearance at the races Piers Morgan joined the punters, joking ‘Now I understand why she wore this ridiculous hat’ as he posed with his wife Chris Robshaw and Camilla Kerslake in the Village Enclosure Ella Eyre also poses in red in the Village Enclosure Camilla Kerslake looked clean cut in a white jacket and black dress Sarah Ferguson arrives for the races in a yellow dress and clashing green fascinator She dropped into an awkward curtsy as the Queen went past The Queen arrives in pink for her fourth day at the races The Queen stood out in the bright pink The Prime Minister of the UAE Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was among the guests Demi Moore can be seen getting excited as she watches the racing Crowds snap pictures of the Queen as her carriage goes past Crowds stretch as far as the eye can see Laura Austin-Pugh from the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund pictured wearing a themed hat depicting the Red Arrows at Ascot today Model Lottie Moss, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Victoria Pendleton and Heida Reed cheer on the races Crowds watch as the horses race past This racegoer made sure to stand out from the crowd with a jaw-dropping rose fascinator Sarah Soulsby poses in a unique fascinator One woman brightens up the field in a bright orange dress Racegoers queue for a photo opportunity during day four of Royal Ascot Amanda Knight smiles in a leopard print dress Jenny Pacey looks beautiful in a red outfit and matching hat Tamara Ecclestone’s husband Jay Rutland enjoys a day at Royal Ascot One woman touches up her makeup to be on top form Racegoers cheers as they enjoy the day out of the office for the races Her first Royal Ascot victory was in the Royal Hunt Cup won by her horse Choir Boy in 1953, while her last was three years ago when Dartmouth triumphed in the Hardwicke Stakes – the monarch’s 23rd winner at the event. Thoroughbreds are the Queen’s great passion, and she is probably never happier when working with John Warren, her bloodstock and racing adviser. Her love of all things equine began as a little girl, and she went on to breed her own horses and enjoys the thrill of seeing them race. She is a respected figure in the racing world and her horses have won four out of the five flat racing classics – the 1,000 Guineas and 2,000 Guineas, the Oaks and the St Leger – with only the Derby eluding her. The Queen made sporting history in 2013 when she became the first reigning monarch to win Royal Ascot’s Gold Cup. And she has attended every day of the meeting for the past 64 years and the last time she missed a moment of the event being her own coronation in 1953. She is even said to read the Racing Post every morning. And punters were delighted when she donned pink for the races today. [article-rail-section title=”MOST READ IN NEWS ” posts_category=”2″ posts_number=”6″ query_type=”popular” /] The Racing Post’s hat betting expert said: “On the first three days of Royal Ascot, Her Majesty has worn somewhat muted colours, twice in pale blue whilst sporting shade of violet on Ladies’ Day. “With the weather sure to improve on Day 4, we’re predicting she’ll finally break out the brighter colours and pink is the obvious statistical choice, having been worn 14 times in the last 14 years. “The bookies make another blue number the favourite but we can’t see The Queen ripping up the rule book by wearing the same shade three times in a week, so it’s worth taking a chance on pink to upset the odds once again.” One woman takes a sip of champagne during the Friday celebrations A group of friends wore shades of blue for the day out One group of women can be seen in bright and colourful dresses Cheerful racegoers pose for a photograph One woman wears an impressively large fascinator Chris Quinten and fiancée Robyn Delabarre arrive at the races Jenny Pacey wears an eye-catching white and red hat Harriadnie Beau stuns in a black outfit for the glamorous day out Racegoer Ilda Di Vico also pulled out all the stops in a bright pink dress and matching hat Racegoers take a break from the day’s frivolities Natalia Beach channels her UK pride with her hat Valerie Stark wears a daring white and black pantsuit Heather Dean from Belfast looks fantastic in a huge black and white hat Friends joke around in their tops and tails for the big day The Earl of Onslow arrives with a feather in his top hat Nicki Chapman glows in green for one of the biggest days in racing A group of racegoers arrived for the Royal Ascot this morning Racegoers dressed to the nines, arriving by horse and carriage We pay for your stories!
