Even in a fake world, it’s hard to miss the parallels between the atrocities of Game of Thrones and the decisions real humans are capable of in war. Matt Wynn, USA TODAY Daenerys Targaryen lived up to the worst parts of her family’s rage-filled past on Sunday’s penultimate episode of “Game of Thrones.” Atop her last […]

“Game of Thrones” fans have lots of opinions about this week’s episode, “The Bells,” which featured controversial payoffs for Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), Cersei (Lena Headey) and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), among others. Who better to help you sort through all your feels than Tiffany Haddish, who joins Jonathan Van Ness for the latest episode of the Emmy-nominated recap series “Gay of Thrones.” Watch it above — and it should go without saying, but SPOILERS abound. The “Game of Thrones” episode began with Dany learning that Varys (Conleth Hill) betrayed her by trying to convince Jon (Kit Harington) to claim the Iron Throne, so she “lights his ass up like a flat iron finger burn — ow!” Then it was time for Dany’s troops to face “the Wells Fargo army with their Newsies-inspired high-waisted khakis.” It took about five minutes for Dany’s dragon to barbecue them all and win the entire war, but she “flunked Winning Gracefully 101,” so she gives genocide a try and lays waste to the entire city. Also like Tom Petty, she’s crushing this red velvet top.” Eventually even she has to concede that the battle is lost, so she tries to escape the Red Keep with Jaime, but to no avail. “Eight long years I’ve been waiting to watch this bitch get killed,” says Haddish, “and how does she get killed? Rocks. Not rocks from one of her enemies’ families being thrown, not even crack rocks.” Down in the city Arya (Maisie Williams) narrowly escapes the carnage when she finds a horse that must have found the last surviving Drybar in King’s Landing because “the shag and the fringe on this horse were next level, honey!” So what happens in the finale? And more importantly, who will be joining Van Ness for the final “Thrones” recap? And can Van Ness please recap another show after all is said and done? “Gay of Westworld”? “Gaynger Things”? “The Handgay’s Tale”? Written by Robert Henry After the beheading of Missandei and her’s last words being “dracarys”, Daenerys knew what she needed to do in order to take the Kings Landing and the Red Keep.  Missandei and her people are considered pacifistic people so the fact that her last words were essentially to burn the city and […]

[Update May 16, 11:45am ET: The petition has soared above the 400,000 signature mark] “Game of Thrones” backlash has hit a fever pitch with an online petition that has gone viral, amassing over 20,000 signatures and counting. The petition urges series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to remake the final six episodes, many of which have divided “Thrones” fans around the world. The series’ penultimate episode, “The Bells,” proved to be one of its most divisive for a twist in which Daenerys Targaryen went full Mad Queen and burned King’s Landing to the ground. “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on,” the petition states. “This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!” The petition’s over 20,000 signatures proves just how polarizing the final “Thrones” season has been. The twist regarding Daenerys received widespread backlash after “The Bells” aired May 12, with many fans and critics saying the show moved to quickly from a narrative standpoint to successfully pull off Dany’s transition from hero to villain. One person who was especially critical of “Thrones” was Annapurna founder Megan Ellison. “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss just ruined 30 years of George R.R. Martin’s work in 90 minutes,” Ellison wrote on Twitter after the episode aired. “They are obviously sexist fucks and obviously NOTHING without George R.R. Martin. There was no motivation for Daenerys to lay Kings Landing low after a lifetime of her saving innocents.” Ellison admitted her real-time reaction to the episode was “a touch emotional and harsh,” but she stood by her criticism that the writers “poorly set up” Daenerys’ transformation into the Mad Queen. IndieWire’s Liz Shannon Miller was also critical of the episode’s treatment of Daenerys and took issue with the creative decision not to show actress Emilia Clarke at all once Dany started burning down King’s Landing. “Just one shot of Daenerys’ face, inserted into the rampage, would have done wonders to let the character’s choice feel even vaguely realized,” Miller argued. “Instead, the sequence is just a character-free orgy of destruction, with a way-overpowered dragon raining down death from above.” The final episode of “Game of Thrones” airs Sunday at 9pm ET on HBO.
