THE SMELL of fresh coffee – there really is nothing quite like it.
Which is why coffee machines in their many forms are becoming ever more popular.
There’s nothing quite like a freshly brewed cup of coffee
But with so many different coffee makers, some requiring a little more hard work than others, which one should you choose for your home?
From the manual options that replicate coffee shop brews, to the simpler filter options, it’s really all down to a matter of personal taste and budget.
We’ve lined up some top pick coffee machines below to narrow down the selection process, so all you need to decide is the style you prefer.
From £39.99 to £817.38, we’ve found a coffee machine with everyone’s budget in mind.
Best manual espresso machine
This machine is for the ultimate coffee buff who is willing to put in extra effort for a fabulous coffee
If you consider yourself a bit of a coffee snob, or you simply just love great coffee, a manual machine is your best option to get the coffee shop taste.
This one by De’Longhi is not only compact at just 15cm wide – ideal for busy kitchens – it is a relatively cheap option compared to most manual versions.
Its price doesn’t mean it’s not good at its job though, as it offers three filters, a double drip tray and a device that adjusts accordingly to make the perfect frothy cappuccino or creamy latte.
The only downside is it might take some practise at playing barista.

Best semi-automatic espresso machine
Great tasting coffee with less effort than a fully manual option
Sage’s machine is part manual, part automatic, meaning you can achieve the quality coffee of a manual version without the hard work.
It might be pricey, but a touch screen makes things simpler and you can personalise programs so your favourite coffees are remembered.
It also heats up in just three seconds and your espresso will be complete in under a minute – ideal when you’re rushing to get ready for work.
This machine is beyond clever and precise too.

Best bean to cup coffee machine
This machine will make 12 cups of coffee before it needs refilling with water
Bean to cup designs are simpler to use than manual alternatives and unlike a coffee pod machine, you still get fresh coffee as the beans are ground in front of you – just not by hand, thankfully.
This one by De’Longhi is all frills.
From a water tank that’ll make 12 cups of coffee before requiring a refill, to a frother that’ll help produce dreamy cappuccinos.
It’s more environmentally friendly than machines that use plastic pods too.
The only downsize is its size – not one for smaller kitchens.

Quietest coffee capsule machine
A coffee machine that keeps the noise down really is a first
This coffee capsule option is beautifully simple – pop a pod in and you’ll have freshly brewed coffee almost instantly.
It’s got some great features such as how quietly it’ll create your caffeine fix – trust us this is a rarity. With programmable settings, compact design and removable dishwasher-safe parts, it makes caffeine intake almost too easy.

Most clever capsule machine
This machine uses very clever barcode technology to determine which settings it should be using
An intelligent machine that recognises which capsule you’ve put into it using barcode technology.
It will automatically change the settings to suit the blend without you having to lift a finger.
At its current reduced price it’s more than worth it.

Best value filter coffee machine
Save your precious pounds because this machine is great at its job on a budget
Filter coffee has long been a great alternative to instant, without the expense or complications of manual coffee machines.
This one won’t leave you broke and with a unique shower head that disperses water evenly over the coffee grounds to bring out the flavour, it’s going to always beat the more standard cone-shaped filter coffee machines.
The major bonus is the automatic timer, meaning you’ll wake up to the dreamy waft of fresh coffee. It’ll keep it warm for 30 minutes too, just in case you fancy hitting the snooze button.
One reviewer noted that there is a timer that tells you how long since you brewed the coffee too. Because it’s kept warm you can go back for more.

Most compact coffee pod machine
Keep it compact with a mini machine
It may be small and light – perfect for limited worktop space or taking it away for the weekend, but this machine is mighty.
It is Nespresso’s most compact machine to date, yet you still have two programmable options, it shuts off within nine minutes and even comes with 150 complimentary capsules.
How’s that for value?
