Pizza Night

Last night’s pie featured a classic King Arthur 100% whole wheat crust.  For sauce, I used crushed tomatoes with garlic and oregano.  The pie was topped with Cabot Old World Tuscan Cheddar.  Let’s get one thing straight.  There is no such thing as Tuscan cheddar.  But it sure was tasty! For beer, we enjoyed the […]

The baseball you saw today may not count, but it counts. On Saturday against the Braves, one of the focal points of the spring (and hopefully the season), put himself right in the forefront of baseball’s return. In the top of the second, Pete Alonso (yes, it’s Pete now) dropped a throw from Amed Rosario […]

Santa Cruz Sentinel
In 1946 (just before this photo was taken) the Tea Cup restaurant, with its bright red sign, moved into the second floor of the historic “flatiron” building at the intersection of Front and Pacific in Santa Cruz. Behind it was the St. George Hotel and, in the distance, the town clock (then near Cooper Street). The popular Tea Cup remained in business until 1989, when the building suffered severe earthquake damage and was eventually demolished. (Photo from a private collection) The Sentinel’s Focal Point photos and captions are provided courtesy of the Capitola Museum. The all is one. When I made that statement a few weeks ago, I was referring to how being open to how developing one portion of my creative process has unexpectedly opened up other doors, and fed back on itself.  But a concert I saw last night showed just how much an understanding of context–and […]

Marriage and Family Life

Turning towards each other requires paying attention to needs or bids for attention that your spouse may have.  Recognizing needs that your partner has and willingly serving them also turns our hearts to the Savior.  “The gospel of Jesus Christ is designed to lift our vision from our own petty and relentless want to something […]

Last week, a ticker that I watch count up every day put 7 zeros and a 5 on the board. 50 million trees planted by groups all over the world. The ticker is on the home-screen of Ecosia.org, a search engine that I’ve had installed on my computer since last year. This company devotes the […]

Life thru a lens

The OM-System was introduced by Olympus in 1972, more than a decade later than most of the, well-established 35mm SLR brands. Its success must undoubtedly be attributed to Olympus’ chief designer Maitani Yoshihisa and his staff, certainly taking advantage of new technology and increased general 35mm SLR understanding. The nucleus of this system is the […]

“The Destruction of Da Derga’s Hostel” was a very interesting read. Belonging to the Ulster Cycle of Irish Mythology, this story is about Conaire and him breaking several of his taboos which ultimately lead to his death. However, his death is the focal point of my thoughts. As is typical with Irish mythology and stories, […]

I like this photo. Although you cannot see the terrain clearly, the sky is the focal point of the photo. This was taken at Auschwitz II Birkenau. We’ve read about it and learned of it, Auschwitz. We know of the Holocaust and know of the stories from those who survived. Yet, to see the place […]
