EMBATTLED former FAI CEO John Delaney may be asked to return before a Dail watchdog to answer questions he dodged last time. The ex footie boss is currently on gardening leave after he stepped aside at the FAI after a series of revelations about its finances. Former FAI boss John Delaney could be facing another Dail grilling Six audits are currently underway into the FAI’s accounts including an probe by the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement. Bosses at Sport Ireland — who have withheld public funding to the Association — today appeared at the Oireachtas Committee for Sport to discuss corporate governance changes to be implemented at the FAI. During the hearing, Ruth Coppinger asked if the Committee should consider re-inviting Delaney after he danced around their questions in April. The TD said: “We should re-invite the former CEO to answer these.” During the controversial appearance in Leinster House, the then FAI Executive Vice President gave an opening statement but refused to answer the vast majority of questions “for legal reasons”. Sinn Fein TD Imelda Munster said at the time that it was “an absolute disgrace and it’s been farcical”. Committee Chair Fergus O’Dowd said that re-inviting Delaney will be something that the group will consider in Autumn. He said the FAI wanted to appear before the Committee in private but this was ruled out and they said they would come in after their AGM at the end of the month. Chairman Kieran Mulvey told the TDs that “earthquake type change” is needed in the FAI, while CEO John Treacy said Mr Conway needs to walk away so a new board can begin to rebuild trust with the public. Sport Minister Shane Ross this week sent a letter to the FAI urging all former members to step aside.
