THE women who broke their silence to tell-all on their alleged abuse at the hands of rapper R Kelly were lauded by the stars at the MTV Movie and TV Awards. Surviving R Kelly picked up Best Documentary at the glamorous ceremony in Los Angeles and the women involved in the series got the loudest applause on the night when they were announced as the winners. Lifetime’s Brie Miranda Bryant, far left, gave an emotional speech on stage at the MTV Movie and TV Awards as she picked up the Best Documentary gong for Surviving R Kelly In an emotional speech, Lifetime’s Brie Miranda Bryant thanked the 54 contributors in the documentary, including Grammy award winning singer John Legend, for speaking out about the sexual abuse allegations levelled at the rapper. Brie was joined on stage by Lisa Van Allen, Lizzette Martinez and Faith Rodgers, who all appeared in the shocking docu-series. Brie said: “This isn’t just a trophy to us, because this really speaks to the important cultural impact that this generated. “To our survivors and parents, we know the journey does not start or stop with this documentary, but the world is listening now. She was joined by some of the 54 contributors who spoke out about the sexual abuse allegations levelled at the rapper in the six-part series “Because of your bravery, other girls and boys and women and men are now speaking without shame and being heard without judgement. “Because of your courage, you created change, and you survived. So thank you.” R Kelly was dropped by his record label RCA shortly after the six-part series aired. In February, he charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He has strongly denied all the allegations and charges made against him. R Kelly has strongly denied the claims made against him in the documentary Also on the night, Dwayne Johnson was honoured with the Icon Generation Award and gave a moving speech about how he found success in the industry. He said: “When I first got to Hollywood, Hollywood they didn’t know what the hell to do with me. I mean I was half black, half Samoan, six-foot-four, 275-pound pro wrestler. “I was told at that time you’ve got to be a certain way, you’ve got to drop some weight, you’ve got to be somebody different, you’ve got to stop working out, stop doing the things that I love, you’ve got to stop calling yourself ‘The Rock.’ “For years I bought into it because you think, ‘Oh, that’s what I’m supposed to do and I was miserable doing that. I made a choice that I wasn’t going to conform to Hollywood, Hollywood was going to conform to me.” Actor Dwayne Johnson was honoured with the Icon Generation Award While Jada Pinkett-Smith was handed the Trailblazer gong at the star-studded ceremony in Los Angeles He ended his speech by telling the star-studded audience: “When I was 15, I heard a quote and I’ll never forget it, ‘’It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice.’” Jade Pinkett-Smith was also honoured on the night and was handed the Trailblazer gong for her work in the entertainment industry. Elizabeth Moss won Best Performance in a Show for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale The actress told the audience: “Often we applaud the trails people blaze in the external world that we can see. “But very rarely do we applaud the trails that are blazed in the hidden rooms of the mind that are full of uncertainty, false beliefs and pain. Brie Larson, along with her stunt doubles, Ingrid Kleinig, left, and Joanna Bennett, right, picked up the award for Best Fight in Captain Marvel [article-rail-section title=”MOST READ IN TV & SHOWBIZ” posts_category=”325″ posts_number=”6″ query_type=”popular” /] “And it’s these internal obstacles that must be challenged in order to muster the courage to forge new paths that we can see in the world.” “So that means that every single person in this room is trailblazing, whether it’s within or without. “So as you honour me tonight, I want to honour all of you.” The 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards, hosted by Zachary Levi, will air tonight at 8pm on MTV UK. A host of famous faces appear (Pictures: UMG) Taylor Swift’s music video for her new song You Need To Calm Down has made some massive waves. What with putting the final nail in the coffin of her feud with Katy Perry, to including a host of celeb cameos, to the lyrics which slam internet trolls and the anti-LGBTQ+, there’s a lot to unpack here. As we get ready to bother our neighbours by singing this at the top of our lungs for the rest of the summer, here’s the complete list of celebrities who can be seen in the You Need To Calm Down music video. Adam Lambert American Idol alum Adam Lambert was the first openly gay musician to reach the top of the Billboard charts with his album Trespassing. He’s currently the front-man of Queen, and appears in the video for You Need To Calm Down as Ellen DeGeneres’ tattoo artist. Adam Rippon US figure skater Adam Rippon won the bronze medal at the Winter Olympics in 2018, and thus became the first openly gay man to win a medal in the history of the Winter Olympic games. Olympic champ Adam Rippon (Picture: UMG) In the music video, he plays a snow cone vendor. Broadway Icon Billy Porter (Picture: UMG) Billy Porter Broadway star and red-carpet dominator Billy Porter not only won the Met Gala this year, but was nominated for a Golden Globe for his work acting in TV show Pose. In the video, he struts his in front of anti LGBT+ protestors. Chester Lockhard is an actor and singer (Picture: UMG) Chester Lockhart Actor and singer Chester Lockhart can be seen in the video looking judgmentally over at Laverne Cox as she steps outside her trailer. She appears to be officiating the wedding of actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his husband, lawyer Justin Mikita in the music video, and in real life, she shut down an anti-gay troll who told her that she ‘shouldn’t be doing this.’ Her response was: ‘Firstly, Christians don’t judge. Secondly, #YouNeedToCalmDown.’ Dancer and model Dexter Mayfield (Picture: UMG) Dexter Mayfield Dexter Mayfield is a dancer plus-size model who can be seen busting some serious moves outside of Taylor’s trailer. YouTube personality Hannah Hart (Picture: UMG) Hannah Hart Hart is the genius mind behind the famous YouTube video series called My Drunk Kitchen. She appears in the video weightlifting with a boombox. Musician Hayley Kiyoko (Picture: UMG) Hayley Kiyoko Hayley Kiyoko is a musician whose comments about double standards in the industry were defended by Taylor Swift last year. Kiyoko told Refinery29 in 2018 that she called out music industry executives for making comments about her doing multiple music videos about women, saying: ‘I literally looked at them and was like, um, yeah… Taylor Swift sings about men in every single song and video, and no one complains that she’s unoriginal.’ In response, Taylor said on Tumblr: ‘We should applaud artists who are brave enough to tell their honest romantic narrative through their art, and the fact is that I’ve never encountered homophobia and she has. It’s her right to call out anyone who has double standards about gay vs straight love interests.’ Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his husband Justin Mikita Emmy-winner Jessee Tyler Ferguson is best known for appearing in the hit sitcom Modern Family, and Justin Mikita is a lawyer and Jesse’s husband. No bad blood here (Picture: YouTube) Katy Perry Global pop superstar Kary Perry surely needs no introduction, and shows up for an extended period near the end of the video dressed as a hamburger. She embraces Taylor, who’s dressed as French fries, and seemingly puts their feud to bed once and for all. Actress Laverne Cox (Picture: UMG) Laverne Cox An actress of Orange Is The New Black fame, Laverne Cox is the first out trans actress to be nominated for an Emmy. She’s seen watering her lawn in the video.
