The state’s Premier won an election in March offering more of the same steady economic stewardship, with a host of cash sugar hits to parents, pensioners, motorists and people in the bush. Yesterday’s state budget rolled out the Coalition’s pledges for a third term, the centrepiece of which is an ongoing transformation of social and economic infrastructure that is now worth $93 billion over four years. It is the latest instalment in the Coalition’s long game to remake the nation’s economic powerhouse. After bumbling about in the early part of this decade under Labor, NSW has become the model of major project delivery. Not everything has gone to plan, most notably the Premier’s pet CBD light rail saga. But fundamentals are sound and NSW is where the construction action is, and will continue to be for some time.
