I have recently developed a renewed appreciation for Rosa Parks. But before you think I am an extreme liberal, hear me out. See, growing up, I never really liked attention. I know, I know. Hard to believe. But I’ve always experienced uncontrollable anxiety when I had to do things like walk in the front of […]

How to Use Fake News Logic to Worldbuilding   If you asked me my best worldbuilding tip, I would tell you to use fake news to worldbuilding. What?? What does it mean? Fake news? Exactly. Do you know that news that is factually incorrect but it seems logical, it could be perfectly real, you believe […]

I like learning things, Maybe my poetry is too much about me, Forche said in her book that she was encouraged To write poetry about something other than herself. I’d like to, but things seem easier this way. Observations, lessons, What have I learned? We took to the roads this morning ten or twelve strong, […]

Bumping Into God

Nine months ago, my children started a new school and I started working out at the gym. I promised myself I would go Monday-Friday the entire school year and do my very best to get fit.  Nine months later I wish I could say I am thin and muscle-bound, but that would be a lie. […]

BroBible

When I moved from New York to California a couple years ago, I had one goal and one goal only for my work here at BroBible: DO RAD SHIT. After years in a stuffy office dealing with dumb corporate politics over lunch, ad campaigns, and other unimportant bullshit, my headspace was razor-focused on making the […]

Zephyrous Travels

Location Nested in the Eastern end of Sentosa Island, an island to the south of Singapore Mainland, W Hotel Sentosa Cove is a tad inconvenient to get to compared to the rest of the hotels on Sentosa Island. In fact, it is the most secluded hotel on Sentosa island. However, W Hotel Sentosa Cove provides […]

Yesterday I had an appointment to service the KIA automobile my kids got me. My appointment was at 8:30 am in Santa Rosa KIA Auto Service. I also had an appointment with the Veterans Administration Hospital in San Francisco at 2 pm. San Francisco is 130 miles from my home. If I have company on the long drive, the time on the trip passes more quickly, so, my dear daughter, Dolly, agreed to go with me. Since my VA appointment was for 2 pm, and I would have to wait after we finished my 8:30 am car appointment, I decided to take care of a couple of other chores while I was at the VA. One chore was to find out why the back brace I ordered had not arrived. Three weeks before the VA promised to mail me a back brace to stand straighter. They told me it would go out on the next Pony Express  but I never got it. The San Francisco Veterans Administration Hospital is a big place. I had to walk ten miles to find Room 107, the Back Brace Department. When I found it I asked what happened to my Back Brace. I said, “I bend over so far when I walk, unless you send me my back brace, I will soon resemble a peripatetic spider.” The friendly attendant gave me a merry laugh. “Do not be concerned,” he said. Your Back Brace was back ordered and sent a few days ago.” That meant all I had to do was be patient. It would arrive any day, I would put it on and, like magic, I would no longer be 5’ 9” tall. I would, immediately, revert to my original height of 6’ 2” tall when I wore a young man’s clothes and tossed 100-pound hay bales around like they were cotton balls. Having settled that problem, I walked another few miles to the New Knees Department. If they had an extra pair of Knee Pads lying around for each of my knees, I’d be able to walk even farther. My old ones had worn out after more than 92 years, which goes to show some things don’t hardly last any time at all. I was informed they could do nothing for me until the doctors had an X-ray of my artificial right hip joint to make sure it was working right. I wanted action and no more delays so I went to see Terry, at the X-ray Department. He took pity on me and  said, “I’ll check with Mary, the X-ray lady, and see if we can’t squeeze you in for a hip X-ray today. He did and Jane took the X-ray. At 2 o’clock, I saw the Doctor for my scheduled appointment. We spent several minutes talking about WW2. When we had talked enough, he said,” When we took the MRI of your chest last month, we missed a place. We need another look.” The VA does a good job in all they do. If they missed a piece of the picture, the least I could do was let them have another look. Besides, the doctor made it sound like the extra picture wasn’t urgent and wouldn’t happen until November, so I was satisfied. My future is bright. With new knees, a back brace and more exercise at the Iron Worker Gym I expect I will have to order new suits for a taller person. Not only will I be taller, I’ll be able to run the mile in four minutes or less. Other than becoming a bionic man, I’m doing fine. I just hope, will all my new parts, Cleo will still know me.
