I gave into the urge to tug up a corner of the carpet on the stairs in my daylight ranch (PNW 1956) and found, along with the expected pad and carpet racks, a mysterious glued on layer of what feels like 1/16” anti skid texture ?! It’s hard and seems brittle and I don’t want […]

We are getting ready to do a re wire on my father in law's property. I am helping him hire contractors and we ran into a possible issue. He built a small storage room (5×12) onto the house over 30 yrs ago and doesn't remember getting any permits for it. There is no electrical/plumbing and […]

We are getting dirty feedback from laundry machines and dishwashers and vacuums into the DMX controllers for our LED dimmers. The LEDs will flicker when those things are drawing power. I had a studio Furman power conditioner so we tried that out and it seemed to fix the issue. But I'd like to get an […]

Reflections of an NQT

It’s funny how often it transpires during your NQT, (especially if you are on the younger side of life) that you are made to constantly assess failures or wrong doings. Often the most scariest part of the whole process is also the most comforting. The warmth of having your own classroom and own responsibilities, and […]

Jack and Dane start kicking Elliott’s bedroom door repeatedly trying to instigate a fight with him. Dane throws a huge bathroom lightbulb at Elliott’s door, it smashes everywhere, Elliott comes out of his room kicking off at Dane, Jack is howling laughing through the bathroom door. I tell jack to shut up making things worse […]

TAUNTON – With the go-ahead run in scoring position in the fifth inning, Emily Newcomb didn’t feel any nerves at the plate even with the game in the balance. The Bridgewater-Raynham senior captain had already chased two riseballs out of the strike zone against Bishop Feehan pitcher Brooke Sroczinski, but then delivered a monumental hit, and the first of the contest for the top-seeded Trojans. Newcomb’s bloop RBI single to right field scored the eventual game-winning run and Julia Ferry tossed her third complete-game shutout of the postseason as B-R triumphed over the No. 3 Shamrocks, 4-0, to claim the Division 1 South title for the first time since 2014 Sunday at Jack Tripp Field. “I’ve been trying to get to this moment,” said Newcomb as B-R advances to Tuesday’s state semifinal against Methuen. “I’ve watched my friends come here. I’ve watched everyone come here and I’ve just been waiting for our moment and it finally came.” Sroczinski (three hits, six strikeouts) was perfect for Feehan (20-3), who split the regular-season series with B-R (23-1), until the fifth when she issued a leadoff walk to Summer Sheerin, who advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Sroczinski punched out the next batter, but Newcomb got just enough of a two-out, two-strike pitch to score Sheerin for a 1-0 lead. B-R added three insurance runs in the sixth without the ball leaving the infield and Ferry closed it out by retiring nine of the final 10 batters she faced. “Emily came through with the base hit… and we survived,” said B-R coach Mike Carrozza. “Julia Ferry pitched excellent all day long. She battled.” Ferry recorded three strikeouts and scattered four hits, while receiving major assistance from leftfielder Jill Johnson in the third. Isabella Sheeran tagged a pitch deep to left, but Johnson sized it up all the way and reached over the fence to take away a two-run homer. “I just went all out,” Johnson said. “I had to catch it.”

Scribbles & Stories

My relationship with this book is strange. I didn’t dislike reading it, but if you asked me now I wouldn’t say it was a book that I liked. My review is mostly positive, yet I gave it just two stars. It’s a strange book and I don’t know how else to explain except to let […]
