The best picture category is always a highlight of Hollywood’s biggest award shows. But this year, it’s getting a big boost of sports-star power, because Serena Williams will be at the 2019 Oscars to help present the coveted award, which is usually handed out at the end of the show. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences just announced the fourth round of celebrity presenters at this year’s ceremony, with this latest group set to announce the nominees for best picture throughout the night. Wondering how she fits into a celebration of the year’s best movies? Per the academy, they’ve fittingly enlisted stars who are major movie buffs. “Movies connect us all,” explained show producer Donna Gigliotti and coproducer and director Glenn Weiss. “They move us, and they create moments and memories that unite us. We are thrilled to assemble this well-known array of film lovers to introduce and share their reflections on the Best Picture-nominated movies.” We can’t wait to see which best picture-nominated movie is Williams’ favorite. In addition to Williams, the best picture presenters include Chef José Andrés, Dana Carvey, Queen Latifah, Congressman John Lewis, Diego Luna, Tom Morello, Mike Myers, Trevor Noah, Amandla Stenberg and Barbra Streisand — an eclectic (and wildly talented) group, indeed. From chefs and comedians to social activists and legends of the screen, the best picture presenters come from all walks of life and are sure to have a dynamic presence at the 2019 Oscars. These eleven presenters join an impressive list of already announced celebrities who, in lieu of an Oscars host, will be taking the stage to present awards to Oscar winners. In addition to Stenberg, early presenter announcements included Javier Bardem, Angela Bassett, Chadwick Boseman, Emilia Clarke, Laura Dern, Samuel L. Jackson, Stephan James, Keegan-Michael Key, KiKi Layne, James McAvoy, Melissa McCarthy, Jason Momoa, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Tina Fey, Allison Janney, Brie Larson, Jennifer Lopez, Frances McDormand, Gary Oldman, Amy Poehler, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, Charlize Theron, Tessa Thompson and Constance Wu. Then, on Tuesday, the academy announced Elsie Fisher, Danai Gurira, Brian Tyree Henry, Michael B. Jordan, Michael Keaton, Helen Mirren, John Mulaney, Tyler Perry, Pharrell Williams, Krysten Ritter, Paul Rudd and Michelle Yeoh would also be presenting. The 91st Annual Academy Awards will air live Feb. 24 on ABC at 8/7c. We also have the lowdown if you want to stream it live.
