Britain’s pro-Brexit business titans slammed the Prime Minister’s withdrawal deal as “wretched” and a “con” last night – and called on Parliament to reject it. The bosses believe that no deal would be better – and that there is no legal obligation to pay the proposed £39billion divorce bill for leaving the EU. Tim Martin has slammed the PM’s plan for Brexit Their main concerns are that it leaves the UK tied to the EU, as well as constrained on free trade. Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Wetherspoon’s chairman Tim Martin said yesterday: “Theresa May’s deal with the EU has been cunningly designed by her pro-Remain advisers to keep us umbilically linked to the EU.” He urged Parliament and the people “to reject the scare stories of the elite, as well as Theresa May’s wretched deal”. Throwing his weight behind a hard Brexit, Martin added: “Free trade means no deal.” Simon Boyd branded the PM’s Brexit deal a ‘con’ The boss of the 900 strong pub chain is just one of several leading businessmen to come out yesterday against May “damaging” withdrawal deal, which goes to a key parliamentary vote next month. Simon Boyd, managing director of Reid Steel, branded the PM’s Brexit plan “a con”. His business, based in Christchurch, Dorset, has 130 employees and exports steel structures throughout the UK and to 140 countries around the world. He said: “For businesses like mine, the Prime Minister’s deal is a catastrophe. This deal will leave us in a worse situation than had we actually remained in the EU. It will leave us under the control of EU regulation. We voted to leave to be out of this trap. This deal damages our business, our staff and their families and many other UK companies.” He insisted: “A no-deal outcome will be just fine, we will go on to prosper outside the EU’s protectionist block that has never protected our country and its people.” [article-rail-section title=”MOST READ IN BREXIT” posts_category=”14002″ posts_number=”6″ query_type=”popular” /] Richard Howell who owns west London-based Foxtrot – one of the country’s biggest uniform and arms suppliers to the film and TV industry – said “It is not leaving the customs union or single market, it completely still ties us in. We have no legal obligation to pay a penny of the £39 billion.” John Mills, 80, chairman of consumer goods giant JML, also believes that May’s deal would have a negative impact on his business. He said: “If it passes, it will give us all sorts of problems down the road – so we can only hope it does not.” [bc_video video_id=”5972493443001″ account_id=”5067014667001″ player_id=”default” embed=”in-page” padding_top=”56%” autoplay=”” min_width=”0px” max_width=”640px” width=”100%” height=”100%” caption=”Philip Hammond says No Deal Brexit could cost harm economy by billions “] GOT a story?
